Depend on which country.

If self-drive, bring 2 cam + 2 zoom lens permanent mounted. No self-drive, carry light weight like general ranges + 1 tele prime.

I will just travel light with one lens...18-200mm...;)

I would love to use just 1 lens like this, provided it has f/2.8. =D

Then it will be a dam big monster lens... then you will complain it is too heavy for travel... then you will not bring it

if they dare to release, i dare to buy.. too bad.. dun have.. =D carry 1 lens enough.. no need WA, zoom, telephoto, their costs, their weights all become 1.

since i mostly take landscapes and some portraits, 10-22mm + 17-55mm f2.8 IS . . . sometimes, my tammy 28-300mm would tag along :D

yeah, dude . . . i'd second that! . . . i wonder when would it be optically (or technically?) possible to produce a 17-300mm f2.8 IS lens? . . . but i guess, the weight would be . . .

Actually i'm wondering any bird gurus travel with their big mama lenses?

same combi for me and also will just put the Sigma 30mm in my bag, also depends what kind of transport and how much i am moving around, i will bring the 70-200 f2.8.

haha.. u can imagine the weight by holding all the lens together.. haha..

Having just come back from the US for a little over 2 weeks, I would carry the following if I was using a 5D.

i) Sigma 12-24mm
ii) Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L
iii) Canon 70-200mm f4 IS L or the f2.8 IS L

Usually, when you come to some spectacular scenary like the GRand Canyon and say Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone, you'll want to go as wide as you can. The 12-24 will fit that.

For indoor shots and normal street shooting, the 24-70mm f2.8 L will cover about 80-90% of what you may want to use it for.

The 70-200mm is really an option to reach things that are a bit further off. Like birds perched on the roof or trees. And like when I was at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco when you want to shoot the seals at the pier.

Or like details in a catheral ceiling.

Forgot to add, if you don't see yourself indoors much and using the 5D ( I was using the 40D), then the following would be excellent:

i) Sigma 12-24mm
ii) Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS  ;p

These should cover almost everything you can throw at it if you're outdoors for all your shooting activities. Example : Silk Road, African Safari ?

nikon has the 18-200 VR, good for an all-rounder/walkabout/travel use. what about canon for the 1.6crop bodies??? the 17-85 IS USM is the closest i can get??

Sigma 18-200mm OS on Canon Mount.

As some guys may say, its good enough outdoors but quite difficult to use indoors especially under limited lighting.

And of course, the equivalent range in FF :

Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS :sweatsm:

28-200mm is the one wif the range to 18-200mm..

For me,there could be 2 combination

Combination 1
* EFS 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 => for the wide angle coverage
* EF 24-105 mm f/4 L => for normal to short tele coverage
* EF 28mm f/1.8 => when lots of light is required

Combination 2
* EFS 18-55mm f/4-5.6 => normal coverage
* EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 => tele zoom coverage

But of course Combo 1 is my prefer choice whenever possible.

my new combo in mind would be
1. ef 24-70mm f/2.8
2. ef 70-200mm f/2.8

would prefer the advantage of f/2.8.

This will be great on a FF~ I also love my 2.8s~ ;)
