Actually they were compared on dpreview already. Result? Sharpness was almost identical, and the A900 has the advantage (aside from cost) of higher ISO, portability and frame rate.

Sorry, done side by side test with H3DII & A900 with 35G......no fight in terms of details, it's totally another level of standard. Let not discuss this on this thread, if u keen to discuss on this just open another thread and i'll share my findings :)

Will be going Shriro tmr, so should i arm A900 with CZ85 for another round with H3DII??
Seriously, I already know the answer as A900 already lost once when the same subject was shoot with 35mm & 120mm :)

Any reviews for 50 mm 1.8 ?
Now that its publically available in Sony shops islandwide.

saw quite a few M 50 F1.7 selling in B and S forum. wondering whether the sellers are planning to replace the m 50 F1.7 by this sony new price.

anyone did a comparison of Minolta 50 F1.7 and sony 50 F1.8? which would be very helpful ;)

I have a Minolta 50 F1.7 at 1990 during Minolta Maxxum 7000i days. It is come with the camera as Notmal lens. 50mm F1.7 will be of good "portrait lens" if you don't wish to pay for 50mm F1.4.
The Minolta 50 F1.7 the build is solid and it is still working after 19 years. It is of amazing value :-) .

3-4 years ago I bought KM 50 f1.4 as "portrait lens" before KM merge with Sony.
The KM 50 F1.4 is fine as "portrait" lens, it is fun to use for it will "blur" the background. It is also fun to use if you don't want to turn on the flash light indoor. With the price range, is it a decent "portrait" lens to go with compare with 85mm f1.4.

If your budget is limited, your choice is limited to 50mm f1.8 or f1.7. I notice that many of the old Minolta lens hold the value well.

Hi bros.

I personally find it pretty good and affordable. As for some those comments abt not worth buying cos it doesnt fit FF slr in future. Problem is...if u are using a FF slr now. why would u even be bothered to look at his lens meant for aps-c cameras. If u're using slr like a700 which i am using now. And i have no intention to change it to a FF anytime a year or two from now. What is 199 to u? i seriously dont really bother abt it. Worse to worse sell it off lelong sale at 80bucks, i'm sure those playing with a300-380 would like to get them. Anyway, just my 2cents worth of comments. No offense to any bros here. I kinda like it seriously.

Agreed,
thats why i got it last week..i must say its fantastic..

sorry but i can only make a comparision with my nikon system..
focus is faster than nikon 50 1.8
i would say a tad sharper too
but what amazes me is the colors... straight jpeg off camera is very pleasant..
camera used is a300 not sure wether its the in cam post processing or not?
A300 settings is at its default..

cheers

I got mine at MS Colour @ $199 today! Supposedly on offer. Throw in a lens filter and it will be about $210? Retail at Sony shops is $219 at Sony without lens filter.

Btw, I had a hard time deciding on a Minolta F1.7 to this F1.8 and after alot of consideration and readings, I'm glad i got the sony f1.8! Reason being that the Minolta lens was really jacked up nowadays, almost up till $275? and the reviews i read was people buying the lens @ $100-$150 on the streets or flee market.

Anyway, just a humble sample of the photos taken, hopefully it will make life easier for those who are still thinking of getting one. :)

Cheers to the Sony family!

Well, actually...in a studio...you do need that kind of lens when shooting...if not you going to stand very near to the model to shoot. 50mm crop of 75mm...im not sure if its affect the lighting in studio when you come that near.

Oh usually many of pros event photographer usually use 85mm...for low light...not sure if prime lens really a portraiture lens...But i guess prime lens have it purpose... some use prime lens in sport and event. I think for full time studio photographer..i dont think they really choose prime lens as full-time portraiture lens...they might use those 24-70 for wide or 70-200.

The last time i went for studio portraiture workshop, they recommend us 70-200 and never heard them saying..prime lens...

Usually as event photographer, we consider those prime lens due to low aperture...like 1.4 or 1.8 or 2.8
So that is for low light photography...

my two cents...

not sure?
n u hv so much to say.

prime not portraiture?
wow!
all those medium format guys must be laughing.

2 cents worth,
pretty ex.

regarding studio portraiture, that guy isnt wrong. i see more 70-200 F2.8 lenses being used for studio portraiture than primes. i am not sure the reason why, but that is my observation.
