WHATS NEXT FOR M43, after Olympus, what future is left?

A little excitement for omds? Om5 MK2 entry level range. New menu, "night shot" low light focussing aid, pre- capture but no subject detection. Video suck but hey it's entry level for first timers coming from smartphones. IP53 splash resistance. Small travel camera.

The current camera market is actually quite saturated with high end mirrorless SLRs.
The upgrades on the flagship models of the Big 3, Canon, Nikon and Sony seems to be minimal upgrade, sometimes the sensor is not even upgraded, eg. Sony A1ii is still using the A1 Mark 1 sensor. Hence, professionals and serious hobbyists with their flagship models working well for them may not even upgrade.

The remaining market is the entry level market, which Fujifilm seems to be targeting well.
The OM-5ii is a entry level model, hopefully it has enough unique features to persuade new users to go for it.
For me, when I look at a camera systems, the available lenses is the most important, as this would determine how I would use a camera.
For example, if I am into MACRO, I would not choose a Sony (Sony only has 1 outdated 90mm Macro).
Yes, I can use 3rd party lenses BUT have to bear with some inconveniences like manual focus or no focus stacking etc.

Hence, the OM-5ii is actually a very good proposition, with the large number of M43 lenses available from OM and Panasonic.

More info titbits of OMDS OM5 MK2 .

A much more in- depth review by Thomas.

I know a lot of ppl find it "obiang" / too loud or oldish
but I personally prefer the Golden tone one.

No.... I am not going to buy it.
Not because it is no good, but because I already have the OM-1 and OM03.
Will not have much chance to use the OM-5

If only the reason is as simple as manufactured scarcity and business tactics. These comments assume that all is as should be and that making things are as easy as 1+1= 2. People have no appreciation of what it takes for a product from concept to retail shelves. So before commenting appreciate the reality.

The nasty reality.

Watch this before I think it may be removed because CS is loathed to talk geopolitics but people need to know the truth as we are fed by our own propaganda and the bovine excrement of uncle Sam. Compare for yourselves.😜

Smokescreen:

The truth that you can't take it like a few good men movie.😱 Good luck gentlemen.✌️

The difference , one still wants to use dinosaur fart as fuel and the other clean energy.

What has this got to do with it's camera industry you say? @10:50

It's the supply chain again. Power is in proxuction not consumerism.

True picture of consequence of trade war.Who suffers and who benefits.

Sg proudly announced our assets are in US dollars and of course gold. 🤪

China will surely penetrate the camera industry just like it's lenses.🤣

Sg is not in BRICS but Malaysia and Indonesia is.

Why Japan don't buy American cars.

SM LHL take on Sg external and domestic issues in view of current events.

Sg will be targeted ( nuked ) if hostilities break out as it is host to US navy. Is it true Sg was once a " nuclear power" , outrageous claim? No other corroborative evidence. 😱
Note China did not have nuclear weapon then but the Soviet Union does so "stalemate".

This is related to cameras, specifically Nikon and Canon. At the start both companies had the lion share of lithography machines for chip manufacturing as both had dominance in making lenses but a offshoot of Phillips and Carl Zeiss challenged Nikon and Canon dominance which slowly reduced their market share but they still did not learn their lesson as their camera Division had made good profits until one day a Taiwan engineer from TSMC who is customer of ASML suggested that lenses can no longer do the job and that a drop of water can make a breakthrough. This is history now no lenses needed but mirrors.

The Japanese culture and corporate system are major obstacles. Understandably same for camera innovation so don't hold your breath. Pray for OMDS.🙏

What has Apple iPhone got to do with Sony's success in image sensors? The next frontier is automotive sensors and robotics machine vision but geopolitics is involved. Interesting to watch.

DJI has fired the first shot by using a 100MP m43 sensor. Will Panasonic and OMDS follow suit or will they succumb to the Japanese paralysis?

Now you don't have to climb Mt. Everest but watch it in the comfort of home. Shot on Mavic 4 pro. 😄

Picture quality @7:07 onwards where it compares with Sony A7c in low light dynamic range.

I don't dispute the thing about sensor size, focal length, depth of field and bokeh. It all depends on what you are willing to put up with, there is no free lunch. If every photo looks similar bokeh wise would it not be boring? Quality , resolution, detail, are you willing to pay for it and the weight? 100mp m43 sensor is already in use so maybe something going to change?😄

Talk easy ,yes it's logic but in Sg or our region it's all jungle. 😂 Space is a premium.

Why bird photography, it's all about you what you want.

We come back to bokeh if that's your thing. How to do it with m43.

Robin Wong made an interesting comment that using OLYMPUS EPL-7 Handheld starry night mode made high iso noise free photos. Essentially it is a composite of 8 frames that removes random noise. He hopes OMDS would bring back this feature in new cameras.

This mode he said "are in older Olympus models". The starry night mode in recent newer models are for astrophotography. Live composite is also different. Well I did some research and the AI said ONLY EPL-7 and EPL-8 has the Hand-held starry night mode. Now before you try to get a used camera prices are not so cheap but it is a feature OMDS should explore further now that more powerful image processors are available which would make m43 sensors more viable in this respect to noise performance. All this done in-camera without post processing.
