:nono: Supercar. The average boy racer cannot afford a GT-R. :sweatsm:
The benchmark of an everyday supercar was the Porsche 911 Turbo... Until 2 yrs ago the R35 Nissan GT-R came along... it 'stung' the 911 Turbo badly... Achieving 7mins26sec around the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit, the 911 Turbo's best effort was a thoroughly embarrassing 23 seconds slower. More badly 'stung' was 1 Porsche 911 Turbo can buy 2 Nissan GT-R with a bit of change left over.
OK, difference in opinion. Maybe in AU BMW 3 & 5 are mid range. However, in Singapore they cost from S$130K-330k (318i to M3) & $170k-450k (520 & M5)...definitely premium. An average BMW 520 costs double that of a Toyota Camry.
If Audi is luxury european, how can BMW be mid range when a BMW here costs more than Audi, new or preowned? Maybe different market, different positioning.
Does this also mean the E-Class is mid-range since BMW 5 is mid-range?
Yeap. Except that the GTR can't do half a dozen of hot laps, the gearbox just can't take it
There's also dispute of the tyres used.
Anyway, Ring timing does little for me when I can't even extract 80% of what they can do :bsmilie:
Sorry but the R35 GTR is a genuine supercar. They've tested it several times and got around the same famed time. The new model is even faster now. The only people who couldn't achieve the same time were the people who lived there, knowing that conditions was everything to a better lap time you would expect them to do even better. Lots of politics regarding the Ring, should read into it if you have the time.
Don't worry, no dispute about it as a supercar. In fact, it re-wrote the menu for supercars!
Geez, why are you guys so defensive about the Gtr?
When we bring it to Sepang, perhaps our weather here is not so kind but quite a no. of R35s have had their gearboxes replaced while those who do 2.30s need to cool off within a couple of hot laps. One of my friend reprogrammed the ECU to over 600bhp but the gearbox can't take it & the 2nd gen model should have this addressed. Unfortunately, the current market will push the price to well over S$350K.....:bheart:
"Australian heap o' crap (GM, Ford, Mitusbishi locally made etc)"
Haha I love this, yeah the Australian cars isn't much to write home about, spacious though if you have cattles as passengers. You wouldn't believe the bias journalism in Australian motoring magazines where they would always put a Commodore or a Falcon at the top with M3s or AMGs. The British are even worst, they compared a Ford focus with the almighty GTR.
