What makes you a Canon user?

I know nuts about camera and would like to learn about SLR and have chosen the most prominent one in the market...... after all these years, my canon still serves me well....... no regrets :thumbsup:

My first Canon was the T90 which was the most advance camera during its time, I was using the Nikon FE2, FM2, F3, and before that Minolta X700, XD7, Oly OM 4 and OM 10, I think I was more in cameras than photograpghy at that time , always looking for the perfect camera rather than learning how to take photo and improve my technique.
Since than I was stuck with Canon, in fact I have 5 bodies, 20D, 30D, 40D, 1Dmk3 and the EOS 1V. I think I still have not learn my lesson that it is the man behind the camera and not the camera that produce nice images. :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Two things: sensor technology and lenses. On APS-C format, 17-55 f/2.8 IS is a killer, something that has no equivalent in other mounts (IS, USM, super sharp from wide-apertures at all focal lengths etc etc).

Soon, there'll be a 24-70 f/2.8 IS for FF. I can never understand why Nikon chooses to release a NON-stabilized 24-70 f/2.8 lens. Well, that just gives Canon more ammo to win the market.

In SG most of my friends recommend me Nikon.
But In Japan my friends recommend me Canon.
After checking with CS,
most of the members ask you to go and feel the camera and see whether the camera is connected to you or not.
If the camera connected the camera. He will talk to you.
And telling you ‘Pls buy me and bring me back’…. So I think I hear canon talking to me so I got canon lor. As for Nikon we are not connected lor…

Aiya… just kidding lah…
I felt by holding canon is more fit to me and for Nikon not really fit my hands.
So that why I got canon…

Started with Canon film AE1. Ended up with that and two T50 bodies as well. Plus about eight various lenses. The FD 80mm 1.8 lens was the product that made me a Canon supporter for life. Awesome quality. Picture and build. About the same as nifty fifty in EF lens range for pictures.

Now have 20D, 50mm 1.8 and 28 -105mm 3.5-4.5. Kit is very expensive in Cape Town. But I will never move away from Canon. They have biggest market share here in South Africa so you can find all their kit available at the major camera outlets. Repairs, accessories and 2nd hand stock are available. Only other brand widely available here is Nikon. I know guys who have other mounts (Pentax, Sony, etc) and struggle to find stock items freely available. Unlike Singapore where there are many stores, healthy competition and stock available without long wait.

My dad too used to have a canon film camera and advised me to get canon as it specializes in imaging and optical products. Another reason I got canon was because I love the ergonomic design of the Canon 40D.

I was just thinking about it - seated around me in the office are about 4 other Canon DSLR users, including one ex-Nikonian Film who just bought a 450D. No N DSLR users. I think this is not representative of Singapore though. Prob 50/50 C/N??

My office got 5 Canon DSLR users, 1 Canon film user, 3 Nikon DSLR users including deparment's DSLR and 1 Sony DSLR user.

The first AF SLR I had was an EOS RT. I chose it over a Nikon N80 then because Canon had the best AF lenses and AF system then. Silent USM lenses were faster than the Nikon equivalent. Also, I got the RT at a very good price $600 from Paris Silk. They told me the cam had been on the shelf for 6 months cos no one wanted it (has this then unique pellicle mirror) and he wanted to clear it. Ironically this mirror is still what makes me keep this body when I want to shoot film.
Since then, I have stayed with Canon EOS all the way.

That's cheap. The RT is basically a EOS1 with a pellicle mirror that is fixed. But the reason people don't want it is that it does not transmit 100% of the light to the film.

Anyway, I agree, in the 1990s, Canon AF was way ahead. Early Minoltas were quite hopeless, hunting quite a lot (I used an office unit), the Nikon F601 was also not good (I used one) and bettered even by the EOS cheap 1000F!!.

Canon makes some really good DSLRs. Certainly, they do not hold the crown any longer as other brands have caught up. But for those who already bought into a Canon system, there is little reason to ditch everything and switch. Besides, even Canon's old cameras are still capable of delivering the goods. Take the original 1D and 1Ds for example...they're old, but when working specimens in good shape turn up in the for-sale section, they usually sell.

Have been using Canon since the film days when I started with Eos 1000Fn. So have built up quite an arsenal of canon lenses. Hence the familiarity, wide lens choice and the easy availabilty of canon product has led me to be a Canon user.
