What made you buy an Alpha over the other brands? (tua-pau, nikon, etc)

Actually many people and many so-called professionals or website reviewers always use "noise" as a benchmark to dictate how well a camera performs....

But when it comes to reality, how often does a person actually view the pictures 100% at 5cm from the screen or print them out in the first place?

actually my clients require beyond A0 for printing. the most recent was a picture of a floral design with complex grass details blown to A0 for some president's award competition.

also, the shot of the girl is in a brightly lit area. dont mean to disparage but 300D from 2003 also can give similar quality given such prime conditions. im interested to see in dimly lit conditions.

ISO25600 unprocessed movement from both object and myself at f4 again

by all means, i'm trying to find out the limitations of A900 at available light photography.

Just curious, how far does your client stand to view your works? Will your client nitpick if he sees noise? Do you touch up and reduce the noise before presenting your works to your client?

Good for you bro. You can now share his lenses and accessories too. :)

Yah..we share lens now. It's good to share, so everytime he gets some new toy, i get to "borrow" haha (im the older bro btw :P)

so when sony becomes mainstream in a couple more years, u will go samsung :bsmilie:

Will not la, still believe in Sony ahhaha (and by the time, will have an assortment of Alpha stuff already, will not want to change then)

Why Sony?? Actually it's a mix feeling :)
When i first started out with A100, it's the SSS, nice grip and cheap Minolta lenses back then tat pull me in. But as the i progress to A700, I discover the I dun shoot above ISO 3200 at all and ISO 1600 is more than enough to cover most of my needs even for weddings shoots, no issues with the noise. So with a nicely price FF being released, Sony just remains as the final choice as SSS bulid-in just edge over the noise control.

So y the mix feelings?
The truth is any brand will do......as long as u know where's the pros/cons and working within the limitation of the body :)
It doesn't really matters even if I use Pentax or Panasonic as long as the photo works.

Of course, if you are talking about professional requirement, you will not compromise on quality.

Speaking of Canon quality few years ago is not a comparison as they were obviously the leader in high ISO performance. However, competition have caught up and if you notice the best ISO performance in the market now is no longer them.

I am not a user of A850/900 so I can not give you more comments on the performance. What I feel is we can argue till 100 or 200 pages here, but still at the end of the day, we appreciate good photos taken and not to nitpick on little pixels here and there.

If the requirement is so stringent, we shouldn't be talking about APS-C or FF sensors here....should be something not within our wallet's reach.

Well I purposely overexpose by 1-2 steps to get a 'proper' exposure by my own standards. Those who are at the show will find that some booths have insufficient lighting which will look dull if you shoot with 'as it is' exposure.

Below is a sample shot maxing out A850's ISO @ ISO6400 in a barely lit exhibition hall with no noise reduction applied.

Another shot on the crop A700 body @ ISO3200

Again... by my newbie standard both shots are usable since minor details are still retained even at such ISO level.

This is so funny.... :bsmilie:

Everything has its limitation. But the biggest limitation of all is the photographer most of the time.

agree ... most features and functions are within the control of the shooter.. it is question of how good he uses them.

The most funny part is those who always bash are oftenly those who do not owned them...

It's like asking a blindman for directions...

my only concern is the sony ericsson phones, quality seems to be dropping.
even their made in china psp, soaked through rain and drop countless times, still work flawlessly. I have confidence in their quality control in china
