What made you buy an Alpha over the other brands? (tua-pau, nikon, etc)

Before I jumped to SLR, consulted few of my friends (all users of Nikon and few Canon) Everyone suggested to buy Nikon. But myself and my friend took risk! and brought A100. After using for almost years+, I still learning. But I don't have any experience of using other brands, I like Sony very much. My first Sony CD walkman brought 10 years back still working including headphones!! SONY the BEST!!

I got into sony not because of branding, especially when i have friends all over with Canon who keep pestering me to get Canon.

After much research of my own, i decided to go Sony, because of its SSS, its Minolta heritage, the fact that Nikon uses Sony's sensor, Carl Zeiss AF lens and of cos its very good pricing. :)

Actually when buy Sony, I never do any research. My Kodak's battery is dying and I look for replacement. I even never know if Canon and Nikon is the 2 biggest player in the market. So, just simply oneday when I go for travel, tempted by DSLR at Sony Style at T3, and buy. After that, found many friends who using Canon says negative thing about Sony (or KM) like 'let see how soon Sony will quit DSLR's market', etc. But using it, learn it, and use to it, I feel blessed I'm using Sony :p
love it, and make.belive

Other than PlayStation, Sony's DSLR is the only product that impressed me with it's keen pricing, quality and features.

Frankly speaking, before they came out these 2 great product range, I have always bash Sony as just a marketing hype company for producing sub-par products at ridiculous high price...

It's all fate for me, but as time goes, I wouldn't want it any other way.

anyone using other system beside sony?
i found it hard to believe actually so many peoplelike the sony dslr

To be honest, i find the Alpha way too simple in terms of features :(
Some may find it good as it too simple, nothing faciful to play with though. I has a SX1 and it was way alot more features thatn the Alpha.

Just a question, is there any DSLR that has the colour replacement function? My wife went to the canon course and they teach her how to highlight a colour and shot, all the background is B/W except for the colours selected

like i said before, Sony Electronics made sensors for DSLR bodies plus they made professional video cams for media industry... so u could easily guess the good stuff upcoming ahead !! ...frens, super DSLRs are on the way !

SX1 is a prosumer and i think comparing with DSLR wont be that fair. SX1 is not a DSLR. I have a konica minolta DiMage Xg and it can do more than a DSLR. It can crop, do some framing, voice record on images and ect. So i think DSLR should be simple even with professional settings and features. Meaning easy to access to the setting that i want. I dont want a camera to be soo hard and during event shoot when I want to change to black and white or those temperature setting and ect. The function button on alpha make our life abit easier with DSLR. Fast changing of temperature and mode for basic DSLR. :)

Shouldn't DSLR's be designed this way? Do you really want to dig thru menus for a function when you can get readily available settings direct from the quick navi menu.

actually i never really played with a SLR before until i got mine, so i always thought the function of PnS should be available in a SLR too. I tried alot of PnS and the amount of fancy stuff inside is overwelming and was quite surprise the Alpha is so easy to use, nothing gonna complicated you till you miss the shot :)

If you want a lot of features in a cam, then DSLRs are not for you. A prosumer cam may be more suitable for you cos you are looking at features instead of the advantages a DSLR has over a compact/prosumer.

for me it's always simple.
its always been the same answer since minolta ages.

they sell a system and features "AT" its value.

Its like warren buffet, to buy something, if not everything, by its value. not because someone elses buying...
that is always my life principle.
Just bought A850... even at its value wallet still kena lobang now HAHAHAHHA

Also look forward to getting more storage.

nowaday more people started to use alpha as compared with 2 yrs ago.. and i have friends using alpha... and i can see alpha user on the street as well. by looking at the range of dslr introduced this yr alone, no doubt sony is serious and is going full force to get market shares.

just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much market share does sony alpha has in the dslr industry? is there any survey does before?

i think with the recent dropped in A230/330 pricing the market share will sky rocket. People who wanted a Prosumer will go for a DSLR.

I've tried Canon bodies like the 450D and i own a ixus 80 myself. Good quality images can still be produced with cameras of other brands of course, but its the process which i truly enjoy. For myself, Sony has been the brand that is able to complement me the best in my process of making photographs which is why i am happy with them =)

Yes, this is the best answer of all.

All cameras can take good pictures as they are designed for and some really outshine others.

However, the useability is also another important consideration and whether it is suitable for individual to learn and use it at it's best.

I am not trying to put down other brands like some fanboy does. While I admit some brands out there can take fantastic photos with their long heritage, but when it comes to how easy to use and how intuitive the menus are...Sony is really one of the best out there.

Just bought new A330 today. Getting excited abt this,

bought a dry cabinet as well together.

i hope Sony will not disappoint me. i will be on leave quite often from now, and i will go for 'shooting spree....

any kind souls can give me some tips on photography or on this particular model?

mine is single lens kit

Gotten a free UV filter from salesman. what is it for anyway?? i didnt want to look stupid in front of salesman, so i just acted as if i know abt UV filter. Hahahaha......
