What made you buy an Alpha over the other brands? (tua-pau, nikon, etc)

I believe most people, especially in the SLR community, know that Sony bought over Minolta.

Thing is Sony is known as a premium brand. That's its strength and weakness. The SLR community aren't exactly (no offence please..just an obseration ok...) the lifestyle type of people. They feel that brands like Sony are superficial and overpriced.

I guess it's a bit like apple in a sense. Many people are anti-apple and pro-orange just coz they view apple products as a superficial fad. But, when you really look into apple products, there really are a lot of good things going on for them eh?

Some Apple products are indeed overpriced. You can get the same specs for almost 1/2 the price in some cases.

for me ..it the lure of the extra zoom kit lens and better memory card and extended warranty when i buy my km5d

It's not all about specs isn't it?

It's like taking a 2L Sonata and comparing with a 2L C class merc.

You're not gonna get a 1 piece aluminium frame for the body with the price of an Acer.

anyway, we digress...back to SLRs ^^

Can't say that better myself! Many view Sony as a premium brand, thus their DSLRs must be overpriced. Talk about ignorance here...

Hah, I can't agree with this thou. I use Sony simply because of the value they provide for my money. Can't really say the same thing for Apple.

Sony > Apple ;)

sony know its position in DLSR market... so they offer better prices to increase the pool user... things is that once you started with all the lenses and acc purchase.. u most prob stuck to it all the way.

for now, definately value for money ~! and the as many ppl said before... camera spec are less significant compare to the one who handle it when comes to pic quality.

...

My guts tell me what you said is not true.

Don't be surprise to meet users who does not even aware there is such thing call IS in body after a few years of using a dSLR.

For me, it's the Dynax 5, lightweight and the best of it's class then.
Easy to use/understand terms (P,A,S,M) for a newbie and the same for the lens selection,
G = Great, no G = normal.:bsmilie:

When I started using, it was even better, the green P(anic) button is useful especially after stopping down to
e.g. f8 on A mode and want to go back to max aperture, press the green P and that's it, no need to struggle with the front dial.

Was skeptical about Sony initially, A100 was fine but did not like that A700 took many of the external controls away.
I told myself then ... no STF no Sony but was really happy when I saw Sony bringing back the STF.:D

hm....cheap and good
around SGD 1k it gives me two kit lenses, a body and a camera bag with spare battery(genuine)

I choose alpha because canon and nikon user act soo much and like to boost about their lenses and body. At that time in my photography club, everyone using C n N and im the only one using Sony. And they kept calling me sony boy. But after a year, when Sony growing well and getting even better, they didnt call me that anymore. And i started to promote Sony dslr in my photography club. And guess what...20 percent of my junior bought sony dslr. So now they borrow my lenses or flashes as and when they need during school event shoot. :bsmilie:

It's sad that there is a kind of playground bully mentality in the dslr world. The new kid on the ground gets bullied. We are supposed to be having a common interest in photographic art. Sad that even in the pursuit of art people still maltreat each other.

i get a better treatment: my colleagues (who all use nikon) call me "Sony Man" :bsmilie:

Well, not all but some will. But after all, it's my choice and i've choose it wisely and it is because of my dad. He had some minolta stuffs and i was wondering why minolta doesnt carry dslr and digicam anymore and that is when i do research on them and realized how great is minolta technologies. And at that time it got the world's fastest shutter speed body of 1/12,000 (not sure if sony going to bring that shutter speed back in the future for studio DSLR). So im not afraid to choose sony since they got the back bone from minolta and even some lenses technologies with leica and CZ. :bsmilie:

Sure they does but they kept saying they have many range of lenses and also nikon flash technologies is the best. Well, i didnt comment anything to what they said. If i were, i just reply back, i dont need ranges of unless lenses when i have one useful lenses which can be use in many range and sharpness, the CZ.;)

One word....COLOURS...

Sony/Minolta cameras and lenses produces a warm colour tone (JPEG) which is not obtainable from other camps...

Still remember me getting mocked by a BEST(Parkway Parade outlet) salesman last year when i told him i'm using Sony Alpha..

When you put Minolta's technology + Sony's money power = What will you get?? These people just don't get it.

Point 6 is soooo true. Service Centre @ Wisma is efficient and friendly plus convenient.

I've been there once to service a 18-70mm lens that jammed plus I've been to Canon near Harbourfront to service a faulty 28-105mm lens. Comparing their service hours and location, Wisma is definitely more convenient.

And you're not limited to Wisma. You can drop it off at all Sonystyles; I live north, I can drop it off at Bishan.

I love to be different :p My experience: in one event, I bring A350+CZ1680 together with another DSLRs (4 Ca***) and at the end one of the Ca*** user says that my cam produced better results compare to others.

For me, mainly coz "the rest of the world" is using C or N. So I chose S.

Don't like to go with the masses :P

Now my brother and I are Alpha users ;)

He's even more poisoned than me...getting all that gear :P
