What made you buy an Alpha over the other brands? (tua-pau, nikon, etc)

i would give it just a few more years before sony's offering will become mainstream.

the true advantage for sony is they have the license for AF zeiss lenses. their processor is still a bit lacking in handling noise but i believe its a matter of time it will attain canon/nikon level.

i know a lot of salesman use the trinity factor on IQ for sony as an example. D3x sensor+zeiss+wonky processor = image quality that is deficient at higher noise levels. from my limited experience, i felt from ISO1600 onwards, the sony cannot match canon/nikon on noise control.

i guess this is ok for studio and strobist that have controlled lighting.

i am excited to see sony's growth nonetheless. they are growing fast!

For me, mainly coz "the rest of the world" is using C or N. So I chose S.

Don't like to go with the masses :P

Now my brother and I are Alpha users ;)

He's even more poisoned than me...getting all that gear :P

so when sony becomes mainstream in a couple more years, u will go samsung :bsmilie:

In the past when Sony is not as popular as now, you can really feel the exclusiveness in using Sony. :)

I'm sure of myself will not regret after using Sony Camera for more than half a year.:sweatsm:

haha.
around 2years plus back. i wanted to buy a camera for normal use. a DC.
i went in the shop, learn lot's of things and saw the newly launches A100.
the price are good and i thought "hey, these pro camera not that expensive after all":D
some more got SSS in body.
haha...that started the afterward A700 and the G and ZA all coming in.
anyway, i can say i grow up together with sony-alpha. (only that my skills not catching up...)
oh ya, lastly needed to say. i still like my alpha and glad not into any other brand.(especailly glad not in the C's camp)

And when you looked back, you realised you have spent thousands of dollars for this expensive hobby, however of course, you thoroughly enjoyed the process...;)

Actually sensor noise is blown out of proportion. As long as you expose properly you can even scale up to ISO6400 w/o much of an issue.

I've gotten usable shots of up to ISO3200 on the A700 & ISO6400 on the A850.

Not only that bro. If you print your shots, the noise is actually quite minimal.

Actually many people and many so-called professionals or website reviewers always use "noise" as a benchmark to dictate how well a camera performs....

But when it comes to reality, how often does a person actually view the pictures 100% at 5cm from the screen or print them out in the first place?

One thing many people forget is that the decision sony made was to have far better color separation. This resulted in more chroma noise. On the filter put on the D3X sensor, noise is more grain than chroma, but the color separation is not as good (though fundamentally the same sensor).

Everything is about compromises.

and if you've ever processed an A900/A850 RAW with C1Pro... Waaaaah, the amount of detail is mind-blowing.

If below ISO3200 shot is deem to be noisy I won't know what to say.

Bro, of course the pic looks damn nice, whether in terms of photography or pretty babes...:)
but many seem to like look at pics at 100%, as though they try to find facial hair or blocked pores.

Equivalent comparison would be standing in front of a building sized poster & nitpicking the grainy pixels

Wow, nice pic. Taken wif what model???
Would like to ask all the seniors here, is the new alpha 330 good?? Any actual users here? All the reviews seems like not beri good.

Get the A500 / 550 if you're thinking of coming onboard the sony system.

A330 is a physical shrink frm the A300 which may not work for one with big hands & mainly targeted @ females if you check the oversea micro sites.

A230/330/380 is designed for noobs and ladies...hence the focus on weight and size. It's really tiny and lightweight, if that's what you/re looking for.

A500's out, better grip (for me at least), and A550's just around the corner (let's jsut say it's coming out waay before november ^^).

Anyway, the price difference is not really big, and for the people who're really anal (like me I guess), the A5xx has a Manual Live Check thingy, which allows you to preview the shot using the sensor itself, as opposed to the mirror.

Better sensor to boot. Too bad it isn't the Exmor 'R', would'av made it fantastic for low light shooting

That's true. That's why I always say that noise is not an issue for me. Afterall, there are softwares in the market to address that too.

i bought a alpha because everything in my room is a Sony product. :P
