The question is not, what needs no money, but, can there be no need for money?
There are lots of stuff that you dont need to "buy", and thus, needs no "money", and as mentioned, air, love, sunlight, bad pictures on Clubsnap asking for free critiques, etc etc
Today economics, or specifically Capitalism, is about the efficient distribution of resources through the market mechanism, even in so-called Communist China, and also specifically through the medium of Money.
Also economics theories say the market is self-regulating, and that is why it is so anathema amongst the more purists Americans to even think of regulation and even less a bail out package - it is "unAmerican" one of them said. But a bail out they did. (Does this tell you something?)
So is the alternative to Capitalism and the use of Money as the medium of trade, Communism, whatever Communism is? (or Socialism as some of the American politicians put it.)
But for as long as there is an exchange, Money facilitates this. (Imagine you take photos of the vege seller in the market everyday to exchange for vege.) It is almost certain we cannot go back to the days of barter, can we? So then does it mean that to do away with money we must also do away with exchange? Is that possible?
For as long as there is exchange there is buy and sell. Free is when there is no exchange. You give without returns - if any they are bonuses - you take without any incurring obligations, like IOUs. Democracy is not free: it is an exchange: your rights in exchange for your obligations, eg NS, keep within OB markers, dun antagonise and dun bash some unmentionable unreasonable ugly people, etc etc.
Or as long as money remains the facilitator of exchange it is OK, but it is when Money becomes a goods of its own, or Money becoming an ends in itself - eg I dun care what I buy and sell as long as I have a profit - then it lead to where we are now.
(Even the milk scandal is arguably traceable to such an attitude - as long as make money all is justified; and if there is problem, there is no problem too big that Money cannot buy you out of trouble.)
Oops I forgot, this is Clubsnap, not an economics forum. Sorry, OT. Bye.
