What do you guys think of third party battery?

My 3P batts died quite fast, average about 4-6 months. But they are relatively cheap compared to the original, and I need more backup batteries more than 1 or 2 original batts for few days shoot.

There is always a reason why the gap is so big . The difference is like the quality I should say .

Would the original charger work just fine on third party battery?

So my Phottix battery won't work with the original EOS 5D charger then ?

i have 2 3rd party batteries for my 450d and 1 original battery. the original battery lasts longer on a single charge as compared to the 3rd party ones.

I would still get 3rd party ones. just only coz cost wise, getting new 3rd party ones alot more affordable. and if you have enough, you can cycle through them. that's what i do.

still ok so far after 18 months.

why cycle through is better? meaning:

3 batteries A B C for 6 months
method 1: A - 0.5 months, B - 0.5 months, C - 0.5 months, then repeat cycle
method 2: A - 1 months B - 1 months C - 1 months, then repeat cycle
method 3: A - 2 months B - 2 months C - 2 months

Which is better ?

Nope... but it work the other way round.

Sure or not?

I have never seen a Ittou(my 3P Japanese Battery) battery charger. Even if I find one, I will think more than ten times to pay $60 ($30 for bat and $30 for charger) instead of $120 for a OEM Canon battery.

I am using my Canon charger to charge my Ittou for more than three years now!! Come on, most the the Li-Ion battery works the same way.

Believe it or not up to you.. Or would you rather like to have a bet with me over the 5DM2's battery. :bsmilie:

they dont use the same battery anw, he's asking battery for 5D.

Oh... I am thinking ahead. Don't think Canon would release another new dslr without a chipped battery.

Item arrived today even though on the email it stated that the item would only be shipped today :D

Just curious, charging with a Titan charger or your original Canon charger?

With the original Canon charger..

With the original Canon charger..
Thanks!
Not sure why one CSer claiming that one particular battery does not charge this way. Generally it should work, except few exceptions (if any)

Thanks!

They are talking about batteries for Canon 7D and 5DMkII. Cos Canon original batteries for those 2 models has an additional chip inside. For 7D and 5DMkII's 3P batteries, they can't be charged with Canon chargers, but Canon original 7D and 5DMkII batteries can be charged with 3P chargers. Thus most simply just use the 3P chargers to charge everything. The chargers only costs an additional $5 from my understanding.

The other models' 3P batteries should charge fine with the original Canon chargers.
Hope this clears things up :-)

Great.. so we understand where the gap was. Thanks

Where can I get a charger at $5?

So far it is still full bar after around 220+ shot.. where on my old battery it would be already one bar..

My experience is, all those ######mAh are bullxxxx!, I bought 3 (all diff brands, one for Nikon and 2 for KonicaMinolta (also Nikon equivalent), that have the mAh higher or more than twice of my 1 & 3 yrs old original ones.

Then to my dismay, they lasted only 1/2 the number of shots of my 1 & 3 yrs old original ones. To me, they are just con-job!
