as far as lenses : take one wide and one tele - or something like this combination - don be overload...

I normally travel with 2-3 camera bags; Slingshot 300, Nova 190, and Toploader 75 (the last two packed into the check-in luggage). I will also carry both a tripod and monopod or just the tripod (all inside the check-in luggage). For cameras, I will bring along A900, 7D (for IR) and T200 for quick, out-of-pocket snaps. For lenses, I normally bring a Minolta 28mm (for 7D), Sigma 28-300 & 12-24, Sony 70-300G & 50mm. To top it up, I will also bring my trusty Tokina 28-70. The rest are accessories such as cable release, memory cards, flash, filters, cleaning kit, batteries, charger, etc. I will carry different configuration for the activities of the day. For example, when I was at Huanglong and JZG recently, I was carrying my Nova 190 with the A900, 7D, 28-70, 70300G, 28, 12-24, a tripod and T200.

Most of trips involve walking long distance, and sometime hiking too.

Nikon D700 (without MB-D10)
14-24 mm (always beside me)
24-70 mm (if city-walking, otherwise left at hotel)
70-200 mm (if hiking, otherwise left at hotel)
Filters: CP, ND
CF cards
SB400
GP-1 or GPSMap-60csx
Tripod
Spare cameras: Ricoh GX100 and iPhone :)
Batteries (2x for camera, 6x for flash & 60csx)
Chargers (use in hotel)
Laptop + card reader + external disk (use in hotel)
Water bottle.
Thinktank Shape-Shifter

When check-in for flight: to comply with 7kg cabin bag limit, the tripod, AA batteries & chargers, Garmin and Ricoh are all packed into check-in luggage. D700 & 70-200 carry on hand. The rest (plus cloths for 1 day change) go into the ThinkTank and carry on.
When ready to walk/hike: cable-lock the laptop & luggage to some fixture in the hotel room.

any one has got any recommendations on what setup to bring for a 10D Korea Trip.. I guess it will be summer during next year's May..
I was thinking of my Tamron 28-75 and maybe an additional lens but can't make up my mind on whether it should be a UWA or a tele lens. Will not be carrying tripod or flash

My planned FBO for the upcoming 21 days trip to Oz:

EOS 50D with BG-E2N
14mm - 200mm
2 batteries

Lumix GF1
14mm - 45mm
45mm - 200mm
2 batteries

2 BlackRapid RS4

Was just wondering how the guys with more gear actually travel when they are backpacking.

Will your FBO (?) or camera bag and camera get in the way when you are actually carrying the backpack? Or do you guys just not shoot when you're traveling from point A to B?

Me wondering too...

Last year when I went to Europe, I left my D700 behind and took along F200EXR instead. Travel light is my motto when overseas.

I don't have any decent point and shoot. Haha.

Don't mind carrying most of the gear, just concerned about whether it will be convenient/accessible when backpacking.

is tripod really necessary if its just a trip to bangkok with my gf only? mainly for shopping, will go to some places to shoot photos. can anyone advise? i'm not sure if i will feel safe passing my dslr to a local to help us shoot photos. a tripod will be quite troublesome to bring along

Just wondering what do you guys bring for travelling?

It depends on where the assignment is, what's needed and how big the clients budget is.

I've been known to take a dozen plus bodies, 15 super-teles, 30+ normal lenses and enough specialised equipment to make a CIA station feel envious ;p

For private work (holdiays), normally I limit myself to one overstuffed pro bag (a dozen lenses or so, covering 8mm to 400mm) plus 2-3 bodies (a couple of D2x's plus an F5 for film) a dozen or so ND Grads and other filters (cross-screen, ND's and CPL + Colour correction filters for film use).

The ang moh from hell

I guess the term light (as in, weight), is truly relative.

A D700 body with a (non-superfast f2.8) WA zoom will still take better shots than a digicam any day.
Or get a D40 or D50 with a kit lens for such trips.

What bugs me more about the D700 is its size, and not its weight.

Well, what you feel, is one thing.
What they do with the camera, is another.

Tip: Approach someone working in a nearby store, as they can't just scoot with your expensive gear and disappear into the crowd.

Handing it to a passing stranger is just too risky...

thanks :) guess i'll leave my tripod in the hotel and bring it when i visit places where i can shoot.

Hmm.... after reading for a bit, noticed nobody talked about bringing a small dry box or something. Nobody worried about those?

I have a DigiCabi i-Case box that I use at home, was thinking of bringing it along for a 4 day trip to Penang.

Think I should? Or heck it and just use a normal sling camera bag. I just wonder how to carry it onto the plane.

My gear for this trip:
1000D, 18-55mm, 75-300mm, 50 f/1.8
Tripod, spare batt, 2x 8gb SD.

Always pass it to someone who you think you can run faster than (i.e. auntie) :)
