Good point. I'm trying to justify the flash. The only reason I'm bringing is cos I want to take some portraits of my friends at the Avenue of Stars. I've been there in the day before but I don't know how brightly lit is the place at night.

i think u just mount any of your lens on a tripod, shoot at f2.8, bump up ISO if necessary. that will do.

Depends on whether your trip needs your hands to be busy with many other things or can be free to attend to photographic equipmenting.

Most of my trips previously used to be with a DSLR, Tripod, and a superzoom (Tamron 18-200 was then the best range)
Nowadays, I've learnt to use my 50mm much better and with a bit of eye, almost everything can fit beautifully within a 50mm lens. I'll try my next trip with nothing other than a DSLR and my cheapest lens - 50mm 1.8

I just bring my super-zoom (31mm to 465mm) camera.

Only 547grams.

For my overseas trips, it's usually

Sony A850
Minolta 20mm f2.8
Minolta 35-105mm f3.5-4.5
Minolta 100-200mm f4.5
Minolta 300mm f4
Helios 44-2
Sigma 1.4x tele

Plus all other necessary accessories and a laptop. It's an enjoy to use all these equipments but, not sure of other users, it's certainly back-breaking for me..

Trip to Prague (2010): Canon 550D + 17-55/2.8 + CPL + Tripod (Manfrotto 190XPROB)
Trip to Hong Kong / Macau / Shenzhen (2009): Canon A620 + borrowed an Olympus E1 (probably with kit lens) + bought a Canon S90 there.
Trip to Germany/Netherlands (2009): borrowed a Canon 500D + 18-200
