I read through the 13 pages of posts as I'm looking forward to a 8D7N Thailand trip. Yeah 8D7N sounds like an overkill, but the flight and rooms are really cheap so I thought why not travel around Thailand, starting from Bangkok.

I'm planning to bring my 50D with
1. Canon 17-55mm f/2.8
2. Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
3. Sigma 30mm f/1.4
and of course my set of GND & ND filters and a Tripod

Initially I was thinking of only bringing the 17-55 and the 30mm to travel light. Since it's a 8D7N trip, I foresee a fair bit of traveling around and I certainly don't want to miss out on the scenery.

Can any one please give some advice on my set-up on whether I should just stick with 2 lenses or go with all 3?

if weight is really a concern, then u can leave your sigma 30mm f1.4 behind since it will be overlap by 17-55mm in terms of focal length. You dun shoot wide open at f1.4-2 right?

anyway for me i am bringing my 17-40mm plus 35mm for my BKK trip in april. :)

Travel alone / photography trip:
-D3
-D3s
-12-24mm
-24-70mm
-70-200mm
Gitzo Tripod + RRS head
Laptop
Filters
Every other stuff borrow or beg from my friend.. :) eg. 400mm f2.8, charger and etc..

Trying to keep my gear as light as possible without compromising too much.. well maybe taking a bit of advantage of my friend. :D

With my wife and family:
LX5

This is the best setup for me.

Setting up tripods.. compose.. wait for the right moment.. done.. (wife with a loooong face waiting.. and other family members already miles ahead of me).. :X

For me I would take the 1 & 3.. Tokina shld help you cover the wide angle part.. Walking a few step forward and backward shld give me 30mm++ & 30mm--.. Although I do not have the convenient of zooming.. that just my personal preference.
