Do not assume everyone is using SLR and big lens :D
Maybe the bag is designed for P&S user :dunno:

For me, it looks ok to fit in one P&S camera, one water bottle and a pack of sandwich for lunch

For one, I know Skyestang use this insert for his D70 + 28-70 + Flash....., and he put tis insert in his Tenba... tis... expensive billy insert...

For long/big appeture lens, you'll probably have to detach, for small 50mm still can fit. Kinda Squeezy with Batt Grip attached...

That's why I didn't go for the Tenba, the Regular size Insert of the Tenba is of the same design...

There are many different inserts that Billingham make. You can choose from different type of insert that you wish.
Billingham inserts are very well made and you got to see it, feel it and then believe it!

So if I understand correctly, can buy the insert and put in any bag that can fit? ... I heard its quite expensive right? Personally dun really like the billingham design as it looks like an old doctor bag (if you know what I meant) ...

If you just wanna buy the insert only, you should bring down your bag and try if the Billy inserts fits in your bag or not.

I'm looking for a backpack that I can use when I go trekking in UK. Should be able to hold body, 3 lens, flash and a tripod and on top of that the usual stuff you need when you go trekking(extra clothes(some can be quite thick), water, some food, maps etc etc).

Which would you all recommend? Just exactly how big is that Lowepro day pack?

Hrmmm.. I just use bubble packaging with a large ziplock bag and slot them into whichever bag I'm taking out.

Isn't it very troublesome to take out and use???
I think one should get a proper insert.

OIC...

surprising in States (B&H Photo) the Domke J2 (USD 124) is only slightly more costly than the AW 400 (USD 119)!!!

I'm using the AW 400 now, dun know shld I switch over to J2...heh...backside itchy!!!! the problem is here I got no hands on the bag ....hmmmm............

maybe I shld sell the AW 400 in States for USD 90, which is more than what it cost me in S'pore!!! heh...........

RossChang,

Did u consider Domke F2 during ur selection of bag? sizewise the F2 and J2 looks the same, except for material F2 is cotton canvas whereas J2 is Ballastic Nylon! but F2 is like USD30 cheaper.....hmmmmmm...............

Cheers.....

Well, I've tried a couple of bags before bitting the bullet... including SkyesTang's and Dennis' Tenba, a friend's Lowepro Reporter 400AW, Lowepro trekker, a couple of bags at cathay dadadadada...

My reason for J2 over F2:
1. Ballastic Nylon for better (not absolute) protection from water
2. Prefer the Insert in the J2, more configurable compartments rather than the fixed 4 slot
3. More Padding in the J2, the F2 is just a layer of cotton canvas
4. Padded Outer Pocket, can throw in additional Lens (tat is, once my hand get itchy and acquire more... ;p )

Btw, I can load a 300D + grip + 24-70 F2.8L attached, plus a 17-40, 75-300, 50 F/1.8, flash, some filters, some batteries, passport, some misc docs and still strap my Gitzo 1228 + AUB on by straping it with the top cover...

but of course, it's a bit overweight for me, not the bag... :sweatsm:

Oh ya, did I mention, I've also got a Two Compartment Insert along with the J2?... kekekeke... to suits the style to my likings...
but tat adds additional SGD50 to the price tag..
