wow 1200mm... pls bring hor... I wanna see u bring how many assistants along. If nikon, i can lend u my 2x convertor = 2400mm plus a 1.5 crop = 3600mm..

Plenty of macro opportunities at SBG, so best to bring a macro/close-up lens (or macro rig if you have one:bsmilie
A zoom lens to reach the swans and ducks in the middle of the lake.
If we stay all the way till dusk then a wide-angle lens would be good to capture the sunset sky.
Circular polariser for lake shots, especially in the harsh mid-day sunlight.
Hoya R72 if you want to do IR photos.
Umbrella because there are so few shelters there so you might get caught out in the rain.

You may refer to the IR/UV photography thread in this forum and you will be able to see some of the IR photos.. however you will need a IR filter or a converted/modify camera to IR to take IR photos.
erm.. telephoto lens by its name refer to longer lens like 200mm, 300mm and above but not necessary be prime type, can also be zoom type like the 100-300mm, while zoom lens here are mostly be refer to the lens with range like , 17-40mm, 24-70mm etc which u will have a range of different focus lenght to work with. (guys correct me if i'm wrong at this)

A zoom lens is a lens with a continuously adjustable focal length instead of a fixed focal length. This feature allows the camera operator to zoom in and take close-up photographs even from a distance.

a teleconvertor increase ur lens focal lens by x times. The one I had is 2x but the downside is that I will lose 2 fstops. Hence a teleconvertor is not suitable for slow lens(ie small aperture)
Another thing is for DSLR except full frame, there is an additional crop factor depending on your model. I use a 1.5 factor as that is quite common..
For beginner, normally they will go for a zoom lens before deciding on what kind of lens to get... I think you can see quite a large range of lens on the botanical outing. Yet to see any 2 forumers using the same lens.
Since you are a nikon user, do ignore the Canon guys. As their brand suggested, DA BAO...

Don worry sis.. jus bring whatever lens u have, be it the kit lens or other lens u have bought. i'm sure those will be in good use for that day.
Try talk to some of the more regular guys there and see what type of lens they'll be using and what kind of pics the lens can took.. then from there decide what type of lens to venture and bring for future trip.
