We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses!

Some colour shots, still same settings and lens. Only adjusted WB.

Waaah!
Great shots. I like them all. Thanks for sharing.
I would have been very kiasu and used AF lenses for most of such shots.

Did you use a split focus screen? Wonder if I can extract it from my old F2 and put it into the D800?

Thanks for your compliment. :)

AF lenses are ok, but I just don't derive as much satisfaction form shooting it. I switched to my 85mm f1.8 AFS halfway, and swapped back to the 105 after a few shots. Focus was too erratic, cuz the lighting was too dark to allow AF to track. In the end, use manual focus better, cuz u only have yourself to blame if u missed the shot. AF lenses are also much larger/heavier like the 70-200 f2.8, and a stop slower too.

Nope the one in your F2 wont work. U can try focusingscreen.com or katzeye. I personally got a 2nd hand katzeye for my d300s.

Went to Night Festival at SAM last night, and here are some shots taken there. All are taken with D300s and the 105mm f1.8 AIS mostly wide open. The 105mm is really a great stage lens, and the feeling is damn good when u nail the focus wide open. :D IMO the glow from this lens wide open adds to the atmosphere of the shots.

Saw another photographer using a 180mm f2.8 ED AIS on a canon body, diden get to speak with him though.

Converted in viewNX, no sharpening at all.

Natalie Hiong performing. Great performance, her vocals were quite good.

love this shot especially how natalie was resting one foot... think it'll always look amazing if it's cropped around her calf

Hi, anyone here, do you have any photos sample of Ais 105mm f2.8 micro?

Dunno leh, suddenly recalled by this lens and dunno how does the performance on D800 :)

Thanks

Switching to primes and then to MF primes, is this our natural progression ;p

D700 + 28mm f2.8 AIS...@ MFD, might have mis-focus a bit

Hi Acolyte

The shots are great. I also some Nikon primes and can only use it on manual mode on my D5100. How do you add in a spot focus screen as I find difficulty focusing. Thanks.

Anyone know where to get a screen for D3S..... For manual focus AIS Lenses ?

Wonder if it is ok to post the photos in 2 different threads?

D800 and Nikon Lens Series E 75-150mm f/3.5. I carried this lens instead of the AF 80-200mm f/2.8D or my Ai 80-200mm f/4.5 to save on weight during a recent trek up the mountains in Kashmir.

Results of the lens were nothing less than astounding! Glorious manual focus lenses!

I put 4 layers of scotch tapes at the bottom barrel to give the zoom the tightness I like, and remove them as soon as I got home.

i'm impressed with that you can just count the stray hairs from his mustache :o

at this magnification the lens would have to be absolutely horrible to not be able to see those though.. another one to look out for is the 50-135 f/3.5 AIS, and especially so if you're a DX shooter (≈75-200 eqv). its a rare lens but quite stunning in all areas exp for abit of distortion.

But can you see me in his eyes? I am impressed with the performance of a 32-year old lens. Light and portable.

I plan on pulling out all my old Nikkors and test them one by one. The next may be Ai 80-200mm f/4.5, AiS 105mm f/2.5, Ai'd 24mm f/2.8, Ai'd 28mm f/3.5, and many more. If I have the chance, I will find me a AiS 50-135mm f/3.5.

2 questions on ais zoom lenses: Are these one or 2 touch zoom and are they parfocal? Many thanks.

depends.. some are 2 touch, most are 1 touch. they're parfocal, though its hard to push-pull zoom without having to refocus again cos you accidentally twist the ring as well. im not sure nikon made any varifocal lenses.. in anycase, one touch zooms are faster to use cos you dont need to switch positions of your hands to work it.
