We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses!

Love the shallow DOF, a bit divided on the bokeh... Need to pull my 50mm f/1.4 to do some work...

Heh I'm guessing it's partly the gravel road. I don't mind the swirly bokeh, although I haven't had the eye to predict which types of bg will evoke that.

Here's another from the same trek

Hi bros and sis, new member here. I don't wanna start a new thread on this because I believe it must have been discussed before so..

I wanna ask about the use of non AI lens. I've read a little that you have to use something called "stop down metering". I'm using Nikon FM and FE. Can anyone out it in layman terms so I can understand? All I need to know is how to get the correct meter reading with Non AI lens on the light meter. But of cos there must be something else I don't know that I don't know.

you basically hold on to the dof preview button and meter by turning the aperture ring

Finally, got my 50mm f1.2 AIS lens this afternoon :D
The first impression is really good as the lens is small but feels dense, the focusing ring is well damped and turn all so smoothly and finally, it's so much easier to focus than my Samyang 35mm f1.4.

I havn't took many shots that I can share here. Anyway, here's a shot of the lens and my cam.

Congrats!!! yes, the focus ring is such a joy to use. at first i didnt like it cos it's alot lighter than some other lenses, but in use i found it to be perfect! look forward to you shots =)

Ben Ang, do you have any experience with the 28mm f2.0 AIS lens? If yes, how does it compare to the legendary f2.8 version? I'm considering getting a manual focus lens in the near future and I was debating between those two lenses and maybe the 35mm f1.4 AIS. I would stick to my AF-S 17-35mm, but sometimes I don't want to heft all that weight around.

These picture is taken by the Nikon 18 f3.5 AIS
But, how come the scan result is not as same as the film result.
Is it my scanner model is too old??

Hi,

i had experience witht he pre AI version, which has the same optics but different coating. from what i could tell, it had very good image quality. at that time i was using it on DX though, so it was an odd focal length and i didnt enjoy it as much as i probably should have. i know exactly what you mean about the 17-35.. i got rid of mine and replaced it with a 17 3.5, 24 2.8 and soon to have 35mm. better image quality without the weight(and price)

Hi guys...I also use the Nikon 28 F2...Its a very sharp lens and I like the bokeh from it at wide open as well...I must say that nowadays though, It spends more time mounted either on my 5D or one of my Olympus Pens...

By the way my over all favorite glass in full frame is my voigtleander 40m f2...(Its got a 9 blade aperture) and its one of the sharpest lenses I have used to date!

Cheers

Thanks for the comments, yeah the 17-35 is just too heavy to be a walkabout lens, especially when paired with heavy bodies like the F100 and D300. It's great for events though.

Nice, another positive experience with the f2.0 AIS. Perhaps I'll end up with one soon!

Here's my first share in this thread.

D700 + 50mm f1.2 AIS wide open, Auto WB.

A little bit of bokeh on the metal bench and the background.
