We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses! Part 2

Yeah. It was quite low and then some pple selling high. On the average I do see ard $600 plus.

buy a 1.4, the bokeh is almost comparative but it's easier to nail focus. f1.2 lenses have a slightly larger amount of distortion too...

Some images I shot recently (just flowers)

I think it depends on the vintage and condition. A few were offered for sale on CS BnS the past few months, price range from $400 & up.

Thanks guys for your inputs.

I will consider f1.4 version, save some money for other items. Just ordered a focusing screen for manual focusing.

Hi. I hope I am not out of topic here.

May I know what screen you have ordered & for what body?

I have used them on the film body, I just swap them out with the split prism type but nothing for DSLR is available from Nikon.

It is a chore to nail focus with my middle age eyes on the DSLR screen but really nice to use the MF lens with a split prism on the FSLR.

One can easily see the image snap into focus at the split prism.

I ordered the focusing screen K3 for D300. www.focusingscreen.com

There is another company Katzseye. www.katzeyeoptics.com
But it's more expensive.

There are cheaper ones at eBay, however I don't know how reliable are they. I did some research via Google, and found focusingscreen.com ones are pretty good for MF.

No la. F1.2 would forever be prized.

It's F1.2 for a reason. It's good to start w F1.4 which I am sure many of us did. Eventually it's 1.2

Loving my F1.2 lenses

If those looking for it can't find one at bns, they can look for it at black market cameras at peninsula shopping center.

Though it's a little more pricey, you can test all of of them out. Price ranges from 390 - 890

I 100% agree bro. I also have a 50mm 1.8 AFD and sometimes carry both of them together in the same bag. Somehow when the situation allow you to do manual focusing, the f1.2 will give you a better image - by this I mean I get better control on what I want to focus and frame.

My first lens when i migrate from Canon to Nikon is the 50mm f1.2 Ais. Love this lens and shooting with this lens is enjoyable.

I have no idea what to do with a 1.2

Give it a try for portraiture. You may very well have a different opinion about it after that.

I have a plethora of 50mm in my dry cabinet. Nothing comes close to how the 50mm f/1.2 renders an image at f/1.2.

Stopped down it is better than the latest 1.4G & 1.8G in sharpness. It only loses on contrast when compared to latest 50mm.

Anyone know where I can get a 50/55mm f/1.2 lens? I hav not much cash though (hence looking for manual)

more from my 50 1.4 AIS (f2)

i think if shoot at 1.2 , the subject can only face forward face forward so that both eyes are in line with focal plane...

Well a small allowance is available in terms of DOF. From 6ft at f/1.2 about 3 inch is available.

So a little rotation of the face is available if it is desired.

It doesn't have like an ID photo shot.

BTW nice cat picture. You were probably about 1m away from the cat, min DOF.

50mm f2 AI (at f2)

Testing shot after installing the K3 focusing screen.

I think i grabbed kinda hard at the edge and cause a little mark at top right of the focusing screen. :(

Nonetheless, no problems manual focusing.

1) does it help?

2) When you put on an AF lens, do the AF still works?
