We love our manual focus Nikkor lenses! Part 2

1) does it help?

2) When you put on an AF lens, do the AF still works?

Yes it helps manual focusing. Since the split image prism will show out of focus and in focus much obvious than before.

The original screen from my d300s doesn't have the split image prism markings on it. It's a clear screen.

No it will not affect the auto focus. AF lens will auto focus with no problems.

Just be aware that the split screen will have half circle darken out and hence unusable at f5.6, partial darkening at f4.5 may render it difficult to use when micro Nikkors even those with f2.8 (effective aperture beyond 1:2 is much smaller). Good for lenses with f2.8 and larger apertures.

Okay. Will take note of this. Thx!

Hi.

Did you notice any offset in the focus confirmation after using the split prism screen?

1) When using manual lens, the split prism shows that the image is already in focus but the AF confirmation green light is not lit

2) When using AF lens, the AF confirmation green light is already lit but the split prism still shows a slight split in the image.

I had that problem with my film body, needs some shimming to get the screen to be spot on.

Hi, can I post pic using a nikkor lens with a non nikon body? I think these old lenses are fantastic.

Please post so that we all can see the pictures.

No one will flame or troll you here because the image was digitized by another make of camera.

This is a thread for like minded people to discuss about MF Nikkor lenses.

We have digital and film shooters on this thread too. One of them is me. I still use the AI and pre AI MF lenses for film.

Got this lens from Japan, ordered it through a website. Very little damping, but very smooth focussing.

Not only its great in terms of its sharpness. But even its blurriness is fantastic.

Will be shooting with a nipon kogaku tomorrow...

Very cute pictures of Idris taken with old time MF Nikkors.

I have shot new AFS lens & old Ai lens under daylight.

The color rendered on the same film is a little different. The old lens give the rustic old style look on color negatives which is hard but not impossible to reproduce digitally.
