Anyone who have used the Nikon 50-300 ED AIS f4.5 zoom on D600 or D700 body? Interested to learn of your experience with this large and heavy lens which was made some 25 to 30 years ago.

Thinking of getting a 28mm lens to use. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Light Machinery,
Sorry for this late reply. I'm in HK now. Was quoted HK $3000 or SGD $525 for a brand new 28mm f2.8. Not sure if it's cheaper than Singapore. Will be leaving tomorrow. If it's cheaper, anyone familiar with SG price, please let me know.
Nice pic for the f2. One shop has a f2 and was quoted around $500+

At SGD525, it is a very good price for a brand new lens. New 28mm f/2.8 AIS price from B&H is about SGD700 (USD499) for your reference. This lens is not available new from most shops in SG. Used ones hover about SGD300++ on CS buy & sell.

Fyi, I just received a reply from Cathay. They didn't quote, said it is not available & discontinued.

I thought one of the fun part of playing with manual focus is the price of used lenses..?? Personally as much as I love things brand new, I had avoided buying new unless the used ones were of "unreasonable" asking price.

The only new manual focus lens that I bought since the last 25 years was the AiS 50mm f/1.2 which I bought last year in Kyoto for less than $700, used prices were nearly there or sometimes more!

For these lenses, I rather buy used. For me, that's part of the fun for manual lenses. Most of them are just as good as the new. Just need to make sure the aperture blades aren't stick and the glass is clean. Good luck! The AIS 28mm f2.8 is one heck of lens

Which is better optically, the 28mm f2 or the f2.8? It seems from what I read that the f2 is better.
Appreciate all your feedback.
