besides flash, can also use java applet to display the photo and write codes to prevent screeen capture. But that doesn't prevent them from using digital camera to take pic on the monitor!

flash makes no point.. they just have to Print screen, paste in PS and save as JPG.

embedding photos in flash is also totally useless...there are also tools(swf&flashDecomplier) available on the net which can easily extract the raw content.

I don't really think we can completely stop leeching.. :dunno:

yeah u are rite.. they are just people who like to take people into his own credit..... hmm... can sue the forum who post your pictures if u got a softcopy or film thats own by you. Try IPO "Intellectual Property Owners"
heres the link. Hope this can help you all :D

oh well, too late. the guy just hotlinked someone else's website to dat thread. this time he got rd the disabling of hotlinks by linking directly to the CSers webpage.

suggest all CSers with website links on their user profiles or signatures to take precautions?

if it is your own server, u can disable hotlinks. (like disabling other riding our own web counter) :thumbsup:

that's the result why some images hotlink will appear as red-X broken images.

my suggestion....

don't post such photos in a public forum. use yahoo's photo album where the photos are private and viewing is by invitation only. even the invitation link has an expiry date, and in addition, viewers can be restricted to only a selected group of people.

pbase can direct link to the image but fotopic.net cannot.
fotopic.net web gallery dont support right click

guys & gals - i think forget it lah. we can't stop them even if we want to(as it is, the guy/gal who leaked the pics in the first place is most probably a CSer anywa.) so just take the necessary precautions.

sequitur - i suggest u close this thread lah. ;)

After you click on the "Full Size" link, fotopic.net opens up the image in a screen that allows right-clicking.

And anyway, we need to know that a copy of the jpeg file (and some Flash and Shockwave files as well) is immediately downloaded into our Temporary Internet Files folder whenever we visit a page, so unless the server has a way of displaying a photo without allowing a temporary download, a user would be able to go to his/her Temporary Internet Files to retrieve the jpeg/swf file AS WELL AS its URL. What this means is that there is no real use in disabling the right-click. ;(

It s**ks but for now that's life.

Been very busy .... I have temporary closed my models shoot and received emails to give password ... believed some is okay as they are pbase members and got galleries to share pictures.

First things first there is a difference between leeching and direct URL.

Leeching is extorting profits from your pictures, as good as infringed your copyright.

Direct URL is okay as it was very common, we have to search ourselves where is our comfort zone when "people" made bad remarks about the models etc. etc. URL may not be permanment and can be removed anytime, the only setback is they may download it for whatever ...... it can still be protected by copyright law if they have been discovered for illegal usage.

Anyway ... life still goes on. This nuisance will always pop up once in a while and we will learns ..... it will really have to depend how serious the matter has become and the impact ... from there decide what course of actions to take would be better.

P/S: Damn angry when CSers mistaken me for Virgin Lover and PMed asked me for lobang posting in SB :ipuke: ... You know who You Are :angry:

Sigh ... sigh ... sigh ... :bheart:

I have quite a popular gallery on Pbase from DreamCar Asia 2004 (Singapore).

I have counters and trackers on all my galleries. I just looked and as you can see below some of the traffic into my site is coming from sammyboy.

I have no intention to take down or password protect my photos. If they want to see them, that fine with me... stealing them is another story. That would violate copyright laws and I would complain! BTW, I have 'right-click disabled' most of the photos.

disabling right-click can be bypass as well. otherwise, search in the internet temp folder can still find the pic. :) of course if that person is so desperate la.

Most people cannot find their temp folder even with an instruction book :bsmilie:. If they do find it, it'll contain 10,000+ files.

Rob, can guide me through how to disable right-click-save on PBase?

Hello TCC!
Here is the code that I use in pbase. Just paste the code into the tech notes on the edit photo page. Also, you can use the tech notes batch update function on the edit gallery page. You can change the message - notice it appears in 2 places in the code!

Code:
<script language="JavaScript"> <!--
function click(e) {
if (document.all) {
if (event.button == 2) {
alert("please do not right-click");
return false;
}
}
if (document.layers) {
if (e.which == 3) {
alert("please do not right-click");
return false;
}
}
}
if (document.layers) {
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
}
document.onmousedown=click;
// --> </script>

Thanx bro! :thumbsup:

just to let some of you have some latest updates, i'd initally wanted to close the thread - because yes leeching is almost impossible to stop completely.

some of your works this time have been downloaded, some minor editting did to it, and slapped with a copyright notice that HE created the images and then hosted on another server. so for now it is nearly complete copyright infringement, i leave it up to you if you want to take any form of action.

regards.

How to seek advice on actions to be taken? Anyone here can enlighten me? I'm just a nobody. Thank you.

Hi r52lanc,

Thanks for sharing the no right-click scripts :thumbsup:
May I make a copy :p

Cheers!
