Hmm.. , I will look into it as I am the V.P of the NP photo club.

It is heartwarming to see CS folks lending equipment out to people who need them.

However it is precisely folks like Fizban who prey on this culture and destroy it.

I'd say report this case to the police to follow-up.

Thank you, SianZrong, for informing RF. Fizban is his nick in RF.

Drumma, GenXStealth, I really hope he doesn't do unto you or your club what he has.

Ortega, DCA, Melnjes, no, I doubt this person will learn.

Aaron, thanks for the kind words and the support.

For those who are in the market for a 2nd-hand SB28, do note the contact numbers I listed, and his name is "Nick Lee". Not that I think he will be selling the flash, but just in case, do demand for the original warranty slip (even if it is out of warranty).

Sad fact is - he will probably use the same old ploy again "...I'm too busy with schoolwork..." something that he has been using since 11th June 2006. Since then he has gotten at least 3 separate email reminders, an equal number of SMSes, been on MSN numerous times. The most disgusting instances were when he popped up in MSN and joined the chat group, I'd ask him for the stuff. And he'd stay quiet, for anywhere from 15 minutes to a full hour before disconnecting. And he'd never respond.

So when anyone tells me that he has "promised to resolve this matter", you'll have to pardon me if I cannot accept or believe it. This joker has been pulling off the same overused excuse time and again. And coming from a friend who teaches in Ngee Ann Poly, in FSV, the course for first year students is NOT as he has been claiming it to be.

Police report - well, that is an option, but it'll be a hard one to prove a case of theft.
However, I can safely say that he is not without a record, and is on electronic tagging. I've chosen to give him a chance in April this year. And now, I'm about to hold the belief that this person/CSer has not changed.

Well, I've already emailed my position to his aftercare supervisor on 31 Jul. And on 11 Aug, I SMSed him the last time, no reply.

I'll let the CS community decide if you'd wish to take this joker in. I know I probably have to write off my speedlight.

You should report it to the police, regardless if he is a student or not. A crime is a crime.

DID YOU SAY APRIL?!!!!!! WOW!!!! GD PERSONALITY I SEE THERE!

You got some problem here?

I don't think the police will want to dirty their hands on such matters. And legally, don't think he's culpable of an arrest since the loan was done out of mutual goodwill rather than a formal contract being signed.

Azure, since u already know quite a bit of info about him and his whereabouts, how come you are not confronting him? And I thought it'd be more logical to seek CS members for their help to alert you should we encounter the person selling the flash, rather than saying to simply avoid buying the flash and letting him off indirectly. :dunno:

Is there a bigger picture I'm not getting....?

That is correct, the police will not bother to get into this, as there is no case.

As for confronting him, he has been avoiding me for the past 2+ months. The only thing I do not have is his actual address, which I may pretty well go to bang on his door for the speedlight. Given his behaviour all this while, I'm pretty resigned to writing off my stuff.

So I'm here to let fellow CSers know - this is an individual with a very questionable character. Associate at your own risk.

Azure, I am shocked to see this thread and the thing that happened.

I don't think reporting to police will help in any way, however, if he want to sell it, his last resort will probably sell it to those 2nd hand camera shops, not sure if you have already put in some notes for those shop owners?

Basket, we should condemn such behaviors.
Taking granted for goodwill, is a no no. ;(

Can go to the school & look for him mah... Tell the school mah. If got time can go report police also mah. Lastly, if got time, ambush & bash him...

got time also cannot ambush & bash him lah... :bsmilie: thats something u do secretly... DCA turn his back on tis...

anyway, i guess his supervisor could get back the stuff for azure, since in the end of the day the supervisor would have to write a report of his conduct, and if he commit such acts, we can all know the consequences.

I don't think the reason is because there is no contract being signed. Rather, the difficulty is in proving ownership of the flash in the first place.

I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to dump the flash at your one of your usual haunts. If he does so at all...

i tink if he jus decides to conveniently deposit the item at a place, tt shows how much guts & morals he really has. do not even dare face e person he has done wrong n apologises 4 it.
what an unrepentant, irresponsible, ungrateful person. :thumbsd:

wat's so hard & inconvenient to jus arrange a short meeting tt lasts less than 5mins(if one is really busy) to return the stuff. it's only right.

Azure,

You should set a blind date for him with a knuckle sandwich.

he might have sold off the flash long time ago or might have spoilt it and thus cannot return. However running away is not right. I hope Fizban will do the sensible thing and return the flash if it still in yr pocession or explain to Azure on what happened to the flash. Having a bad records will haunts youi for the rest of yr life. Believe me. I still live in guilt for getting my brother canned by my grandfather 35 years ago.

JimDavis - well, I've already asked a few friends to keep an eye out. But I doubt he'd go that route.

Yongcheng - Coming from you, I am surprised. You should know of an older case, similar too.

WRX - No, I'm not that physical.

DCA - Prisons Aftercare Service knows, I've highlighted it to them on 31 Jul.

Vince123123 - Aye, that is right.

Shadowmoses, Aero - ..... I'm not that free, either.

Tetrode - No, I'm not like that.

DeSwitch - Sigh. I wish.

SianZrong - thank you for your SMS. Please convey to RageFaction.Net that I'm not faulting them, its bad luck to be associated with such scum. Likewise for NP.

I've not heard hide nor hair from him. And will be leaving it as it is till this weekend. Just help me to spread the word about this person (Nick Lee / Fizban@RF / Derelictz@CS). After which, if anyone sees him selling it on CS or the other Photo forums, please do drop me a line/PM. I'd like to know. Thank you.

I hope this matter is resolved soon.

Goodwill should never be abused. :thumbsd:
