Voigtlander m4/3 25mm f0.95

Voigtlander m4/3 25mm f0.95 - multiple choice poll.

I posted up the link in the rangefinder forums, but figured might as well here.

Sample images on this website: http://ganref.jp/magazines/index/1/0/378 Link was from 43rumors.com.

The images are pretty sharp. Wide open, bokeh looks decent?

my initial thoughts was this "0.95 is juz another speed monster". sure going to have low contrast, lots of CA, poor sharpness wide open.

But looking at the 100% sample images - I gotta conclude this lens is very good. It is sharper and more contrasty at 0.95 wide open compared to my Nokton 50 1.1 on M-bodies, equally sharp at f2-4 compared to 20mm f1.7 on my m43. I notice all were natural jpegs and not boosted in colour, saturation or contrast.

The bokeh has much less of the hard-lined OOF circles in the 50 1.1. Only pity is the sample images were taken at close range. Would love to see a proper head and shoulder compared to a doll H&S !

I believe m43 now has 2 very good primes. Wow

Thanks for the link, useful one.

IMHO:

Looks good at f/0.95, good balance of softness (expected) and resolution, even if just on the E-P2 rather than E-PL1. No obvious border distortions, so this 25mm is good for m4/3. No strong chromatic aberration too at wide open unlike the 50mm f/1.1 (at least in these pics). All dim light shots look fine.

However, daytime (f/2.8 example) and it still has that hazy look, just like the 50mm f/1.1 in daytime.

Resolution-wise overall, can't tell much. I find it average, but most of the time people take better pictures than reviewers, so judgement reserved and best to try oneself when it launches.

Interesting lens for sure in very low light, and 50mm equivalent focal length. I really like that min. focusing distance of 0.170m (6.7 inches)

Personally, I am not very convinced about this lens, but then again, it is not a very expensive lens so I would still say it is a lens worth its price. Being a super bright lens I would have expected a slightly higher price tag actually. I would see more sample images and most likely buy it when it is released.

This is gonna be one legendary lens for years, if not decades, to come...

is the lens out for sale ?

You're about two weeks late, but it was good that they had samples. ;) ::points back at older posts::

One thing they should have done is to take photos at f/1.2, f/1.4, and f/1.8--those typical apertures that the dark side complains that we don't have--to see how good the image quality is over the whole frame.

Hey Chiff,

When is this lens coming to Singapore? Quite keen on taking a look :-)

Super thin DOF, like the bokeh balls

Hi, To see more samples and reviews before buying it

I think singapore will get limited stock due to overwhelming domestic demand. Guess pre order is the best for those who are really interested.

Some part of me wants to grab an M-mount lens instead so that I retain some platform portability with the lens.

Same sentiments, especially can get the Nokton 50f1.1 or the 35f1.2 m mount.

Even the Carl Zeiss 35mm/f2.8 C-Biogon that has won raves is likely to be cheaper or equal in price and produces excellent pictures.

70mm is still quite usable for street shooting, though rather constricted.

the OOF is kinda harsh. Need more samples to determine whether this is a worthy buy.
