if you dont have the look dont model .........coz it ruin the photo.

infraction served..... THIS type of comments, we dont need

you seems to know a lot despite you joined in 2010. :bigeyes:

thanks for highlighting. a check revealed it is none other than leegay, who has been de-registered and put on the BOS list.

and btw, DP has been warned/infracted for no less than 5 times by the mods/admins for his insensitive/inflammatory comments before. however, so long as people play by the rules set by the Admins, let's move on and get along, shall we?

Don't speak as if dp is a god here. He also used to be very rude three years ago. I bet dp never kena much infrac because he is so well-loved for his rudeness. Did the mods close one eye just because he is deadpoet? I think yes. In fact there is no need to aim at comments here. Sometimes i also make sweet comments, sometimes i also give a tip or two. Why must every comment be constructive and serious? Wouldn't the forum be very boring? Just my two cents.
as Mod ed9119 already mention, photos posted here will be be spliced, dissected, torn apart and discussed, like it or not, this is photography forum.

DP comments are some how valid, but the way of deliver it is not anybody's cup of tea, and we do not favor anyone, if anyone did crossed the line.

and I really hate to say this, if only want give or receive sugar coated comments on photos, please go friendster or facebook, as such comments will not teach anyone about photography.

The model does look sweet and cute, but sorry, the dress in the above picture is not a cheongsam. It looks more like a bare back fitted dress.:think:;)
Cheers.

in this sense i agree, it's not a cheongsam/qipao.. but rather, a contemporary take on old traditions.

this is just a shoot with western-eatern fusion cute dresses.

for the real qipao/cheongsam, take a look at some of those oldie tailors. they take ages to make. i know because my mum had 2 tailor-made some years back.

btw, i feel that the composition/PP does the models no justice at all.rather than just shooting head-on, TS should explore other angles. also, if you look at those old posters of women in cheongsams and qipaos (sorry i have no idea of the distinction between the 2) there are certain poses to bring out the feel and sensuality of the woman wearing it.

properly posed, even the cutest girl becomes a bombshell :bsmilie:

sinned79 don't know how you found this but it's pretty interesting to look at. i'll be stuck at it after work :bsmilie:

google is your best friend~ ;p

u can look at those photos there... next time have an idea how to ask the model to pose in a classic way with props (umbrella or fan)

Pardon me for adding a little bit "off thread":

Singapore tailors who can make qipao are almost extinct. Two months ago, I brought my wife to Shanghai to make six qipao. As the qipao capital of the world, the tailors there are experts and delivered the finish product within three and a half days including three test fittings and modifications. And cheap too - they only charge labour RMB350.00 (S$75.00) each. And best of all, the qipao make my wife look graceful. (Any CS members who are interested to go to Shanghai to make qipao can PM me for the addresses of the tailors. There is a whole street of shops making them).

The "bombshell" part is very true also - thanks to "The World of Suzie Wong".:bsmilie:

Cheers.

Amidst all this cross-fire of authenticity discussions... i'd like to highlight & remind all that the organiser involved & TS have both used the following terms;

"Modern Cheongsam Theme Shoot" & "Cheongsam Theme Shoot"

& not

"Cheongsam Shoot" or "Authenthic Cheongsam Shoot"

sorry i thought that "Cheongsam Theme Shoot" equals girls wearing CHEONGSAMS for the shoot as is the thread title. this alone will already attract people to come into the thread thinking it's a shoot with girls in authentic cheongsams. the thread title itself is ambiguous (is it modern or old-school cheongsams).

if you want to clarify this, the correct title for the thread would be "MODERN cheongsam theme shoot" which i believe. and that's why everyone thinks it's a cheongsam shoot

no offence to TS for this. just another 2 cents that i'm throwing in and a free english lesson :bsmilie:

wow, looks like everybody into cheongsum now...

Good, CNY is round the corner...

Kei, you've actually got it all right. There is huge ambiguity in all this discussion, and the crossfire (& as with many other threads in cs) all start with people having different priorities, different values, different intepretations and for this case... different perception of what a cheongsam should be.

Quoting you;

"The correct title for the thread would be "MODERN cheongsam theme shoot" which i believe. and that's why everyone thinks it's a cheongsam shoot."

In all ambiguity; a modern cheongsam theme shoot" could mean some of the following (with additional possible permutations depending on personal intepretation);

1. Themed photoshoot based on cheongsam-type outfit which is modern, but may not necessarily be an authentic cheongsam.
2. Cheongsam photoshoot featuring cheongsam as the theme, with the cheongsams being of modern type.

I feel so long as the following factors are met, it is a legitimate & properly described shoot;

1. It is a cheongsam based outfit.
2. Possibly modern elements within the cheongsam-based outfit.

Don't dwell too much about what others had to say, & try to give them the benefit of doubt that they may not be able to represent what they desire to say in words compared to using a visual directions via photography.

For instance, the comment "dislike iris-enlarging" may also mean the person prefer natural eyes but becos of flaws, he or she may not present it correctly. Just remember nobody is perfect. But it is all good in the positive view as he maybe coming from a professional angle. This maybe subjective to each and individual depending on your preference for a certain type of work which the photographer specializes in his common portfolio, for instance "sexy" Nothing wrong just a preference.
