UWA for A7(R) ?

I actually thought correcting straight lines in buildings is easier than dealing with complex distortions.

Yes, the Distagon 18mm does have complex distortions but its not very obvious in the photos(at least for mine).

This was taken with the Distagon 18mm, with a D800E though. Can't really detect the complex distortion.

I do see it at the far end blocks which form horizontal lines where it bows from the center and then goes up a bit at the ends of the frame.
That said, its minimal and not worth fussing over to me.

Good shot btw.
But not much

Well, don't shoot straight horizons head on and don't shoot building at the corners then..
It's all about where you shoot..14mm isn't easy to use..
There's actually a big diff between 14 and 17mm..
But the Samyang is so cheap..how to complain? Sure it has moustache distortion but most times you won't see it unlees only buy lenses to shoot test charts and brick walls..

Amen!

I think some buy to test with the software and chart....

Heard it's basically the same lens as 14mm f/2.8, with cine-support. Even the coating (UMC) is the same.
Can be used for photo but the focus ring is slower as it's meant for movie. Aperture is de-clicked but should be no issue.
The cine-support adds to the price though, supposedly ($50 diff at rokinon.com).

SEL1018 14mm f8 with rear baffle removed, on A7
DSC0067c.jpg

With baffle removed:
- a little bit of dark corners at 12mm, no dark corners at 14-18mm, but vignetting still visible
- soft/blurry at extreme corners
- distortion appear around the corners (almost no distortion on APS-C sensor)

So, as expected, better stick this lens to APS-C :)
But it's good to have additional range of 12-14mm (with some compromise) as the APS-C mode is limited to 15mm equivalent.

Some Samyang photos: http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/samyang-14mm-f28-if-ed-umc-aspherical_topic70028.html

Distortion looks ok to me, no need to correct. Only 1, the one with sea & sunset, the horizon looks wavy.

Heard that Samyang 14mm is sharper than Distagon 18mm, is this noticeable (e.g. without pixel peeping)?

As can be seen in those many samples.
It can be a non-issue.
Sometimes it can be (eg. At a beach location for holiday) (but sea horizon is easy to correct for anyway) :D

IMO, the Samyang is cheap, good performing and probably one of the most viable UWA option for the A7/r right now.
Unless one is waiting for something smaller (if its even possible w/o issues like what the adapted RF lenses are seeing) or AF.
Or need to use filters that are not as big as the one just announced.

Even if something else comes out later, you can still sell it if its a Canikon version.

Anyone has Lloyd Chambers test results on this lens? Seems that the have done some field test on this lens recently

He's only tested the 24mm 1.5 and is very happy with it. He's using the A7 now with first curtain shutter because of the shutter vibration.

The sel 10-18 is actually quite good if you get the correct compositions n angles. Something I posted ystdy.

some shots from today

recently used the sigma19 to took pix of CNY decorations for my dept office, after cropped still managed to capture whole area despite the limited space(to step back)..very useful lens and a great bargain =)

I think you can get the Canon and Nikon Samyang chipped for exif info. Not sure if you can chip it for Sony A7 though.

I am wondering how many amateurs fancy having a bulbous 14mm in the bag?

Is that info from his blog or his mirrorless site?

I believe the Samyangs for Nikon and Canon are already chipped.

get the chipped version for canon and use it with a metabones/china smart adaptor keke... exif info intact.

Do you have the name/link for the adapter? Was looking for something cheaper than Metabones EF Canon to E-mount, which is about the same price as the lens :D
With the adapter, it will be manual focus, manual f-stop, but A7(r) can determine exposure (e.g. auto speed/ISO) and auto white-balance right? (and exif intact a you mentioned)
