Unpleasant experiences of buying a used D700

We all hate dishonest seller/agent. I was a victim too.
I'm not taking any sides here. I'm not really free but wish to help.
I can open up the camera right in front of you guys and show you the actual cause.
But then again, we could only find the cause but can not determine when it happened.
Unless of course the USB connector has been damaged for quite some time, then we can see the damage is not "fresh"

I sold this camera to h2chng at S$1500.00 ONLY because sometimes the mirror on the camera won't come down need to off and on the camera again, and I put "6" for the condition because the rubber came off on some part. it was all stated on my original selling post.

If I'm the one spoiled the usb port, I don't really mind add one more line "spoiled usb port" and I'm sure S$1500 will still be a reasonable price.

If I'm as "dishonest" as how h2chng describes me on the post title, I can just skip the mirror problem and sell it at S$2200, S$700 higher than the price I own from this camera.

Calling me dishonest when I'm being honest on the condition of the camera from the beginning is such a rude insult.

A very well lesson learnt, next buy/selling 2nd hand staff, need to test everything on the spot to save this kind of unnecessary trouble.

No point discussing what the price I paid. As the seller lostlost stated, everything test on the spot best. Since I did not test the usb on the spot, then it is my fault. I accept that part of the rule.

If I buy it at $2200 from the seller does that mean he would be cheating me? No. I can only claim that he cheap on me if I knew he already knew about it. That I cannot prove.

I think only heaven knows. Time to move on.

A camera with faulty mirror going at $1500 is a good deal? Maybe, but I am not a dealer, what does it has to do with me? Like I say to the seller, I am not interested in making money. That is why when the seller ask I can send it for repair and make money out from it. I rejected. For me if the deal is not as stated, I would expect to be able to return it.

Since the seller demand prove to show he knew about the faulty usb (and he knowing I did not bring a laptop to check), there is no way I can prove it (since I never check). My words against his word. No point the argument. Lets move on.

As I mentioned in the previous post, the word 'dishonest' is too strong and bias. It is a personal opinion. And to put it on the title is not nice.

SO in summary, lets move on.

Since fatigue bro has offer his help, better hook up with him for the repairs.

To me, hack the spoilt USB. Repair the mirror is more impt.

USB wont spoilt in 1 day. Whatever kind of reason, i am on e buyer side.

But also e seller didn't say personal warranty, so its a risk that the buyer have to take for 6/10 camera. Many things can go wrong when u buy cheap cam...

Con artist again...thanks for the info man.

That's why need to attend Fatigue's talk on what to check when buying 2nd hand camera and lens at SAM, very informative and useful. ;) Best thing is bring him along every time when buying 2nd hand item, no need laptop etc :bsmilie:

I suggest everybody a lesson learn from this,
cameras are so complicated nowadays, tell me how many of you have use all the functions of your cameras?

if you put your camera on sale, are you really go out all the way and test it out everything is working fine before posting a thread?

what I usually do is this:
Send the camera/lens to service center for a general service, if any problem found and it will be fixed, pay for it and get a proof of the camera/lens has been service by them, it comes with service warranty as well.
factor the cost into the selling price, this is far better than offering personal warranty.

I do not give personal warranty for selling used item, cost I'm not selling it for profits, just off loading unused/unwanted items. I state very clearing in my threads, items will be sold at it is,

I have also bought some items turn out not to be I have expected, I just move on.
buying used items there is always a risk, if ones can't live with than just buy brand new.
