those who attended the talk how did you find it? if its good i will sign up for the next one.

i find it a good learning experience that sets you thinking and begin something different. good to attend such talk to hear from pro photographer how they handle their equipments at harsh weather conditions.

the photo slideshow brought me to the Takayama, truly breath-taking moments. :)

i find the talk quite beneficial to me.
Alan Soh speach was simple but detailed.
learned 1 phrase : If your picture is not touching, you are not even close.

 agree that is a powerful statement.. rmb ur gifting, whether is it ppl oriented or line art :)

honestly, when you look at the output in the pictures in reality.. the projector image is doing them a disfavor instead.. there is like a vast difference on what is on the projector screen as compare with the pictures

I don't think the speaker would have chosen that screen for such a talk with us. He was very concerned while adjusting his screen settings to project the right aspect ratio.

anyway Nikon Singapore did a good job for organising. :)

Emmmm... that is adapted from Robert Capa... " If your pictures aren't good enough, you are not close enough." ;)

Putting that into practice... Walk around 1 month shooting using any 2 primes.. 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm.

End of day.. your pictures will greatly improve. ;)

Cheers!

Fundamentals... It's all in the fundamentals..

Composition - rules of thirds, triangle, leading lines, frames etc..
Subject - Have something as the main subject..
Lighting - golden hour, contrasts, gradients..
Exposure - get exposure correct..
Colour - use colour and contrast to show subject.

Follow the fundamentals and you'll not go far wrong.. Only when you have mastered the fundamentals then explore out of the box composition ideas.

People who heed this advice often see instant improvement in their photos.

Very inspirational talk and but maybe it was a little short?
Nevertheless, many thanks to Nikon and Uncle PE for organising. Hope there'll be more such motivational talks in the future :)

My thoughts too. Good honest useful sharing, well organised, nice slides and prints... Many thanks to all 4 of those who shared, Nikon, and Cathay of course for sponsoring them (nice to see the local shops actually giving back something to the industry they are living from).

Length wise: possibly people (the audience) opened up more when Alex and the rest ended their talks, and walked off the stage, - thus the large number of questions after the talk rather than the Q&A - maybe a more informal Q&A would have helped the audience to loosen up earlier.

:)
