Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

Hi undergrd, it only happens for the tokina lens. The rest of the lens are fine, am having a 15-85mm and a 70-200mm 2.8 and when i depressthe shutter half way, the view in the view finder goes from blur to sharp, the usual. But only with the tokina, its blur and when i press half shutter, its still blur, but the pics comes out sharp.
Does the issue you mention only occur for this lens or all your lenses? You might want to check your diopter adjustment...

Is it have to do with the settings on ur camera body?

Just did the diopter adjustments everyone. thanks for your help. Learnt something new today that with UWA lens, when our view finder isnt calibrated, it shows up extremely obvious in UWA then normal lens like 15-85 or 70-200 which i have. Cos i just did a before adjustment preview with all lens and an after preview with all lens after adjustment, only the UWA viewing was obvious that it has sharpened alot, the others you can see its just a little sharper from before. THanks again for your help.

Hi:

Just wish to check if anyone here have used this lens on a FX body. I'm using a D700. I own a nikon 14-24 but it is a bit heavy for me to bring it for an oversee trip shooting whole day long. So I'm thinking of using this lens instead as a substitution. I heard that it is ok with 15-16mm on a Nikon FX body, but how about the IQ if switch to DX image size on D700?

Thanks

Hi all, glad to say am also a proud owner of this wonderful lens. Just 1 question though. All my shots thus far, has been sharp, sharp at 2.8 and sharper at 4.0 onwards, however i am experiencing something strange. When i view through the view finder, after focussing, the image is blur, but when the shot is taken, picture is sharp. I am wondering if this is also true for you guys? For example, i was taking a close up on my food, distance was barely 40cm away. So before i focussed, image was blur, once you focus, usually your viewfinder will sharpen up and then if the image is sharp, you press the shutter. For mine, the lens was focussing properly, but the view finder remained blur, and when i pressed the shutter, image was sharp. So i tried focussing with the LCD screen instead, it was blur, and when i focussed, the screen slowly became sharp and i pressed the shutter, picture turned out sharp. Can anyone tell me why is this so or is this normal? My other lens worked fine. no issues. thank you for reading.

Viewing from view finder there's an adjustment beside the ovf can't remember what it called try to adjust it to your eyes grade :-)

It's called the diopter adjustment dial and he already did the adjustment. Now its ok

Hi all, does anyone mount this lens into nikon 1 system with the aid of FT-1 adapter? I am keen to know the outcomes, thank you

Hi guys, went through this whole thread, so just to double-confirm again...

This lens do not have the very common front/back focus issues that is inherent with sigmas right? I can just go shop, buy 'n' go aint it?
And the standard warranty is 2years?

Even for sigma, it's not inherent... As for this tokina, the chance that you use it's AF is much lesser, if you mainly use it for landscape that is. So far I've no issue with it when shooting large aperture F/2.8

For landscapes i would use manual focus no doubt, but sometimes when i just wanna use it as a wide angle walkabout lens, AF would be easier

I have tried before multiple copies of sigma 30mm, all have issues with focusing or 1 side sharper than the other, and needs calibration of some sort...

so im wondering whether tokina 116 suffer from the same problem as sigma, or its more like a canon, chance to get a lemon is very low when buying (more like heng suay)

My copy seems ok. Or maybe Im not very particular

Tried this lens last week and quite impressed with its sharpness

hello! mind if i ask you if you shot it using AF or hyperfocal distance

Hi, I shoot using AF of 7D. I am just a hobbyist so have not learnt how to do manual focusing. I tried what u termed as hyperfocal distance the other time with a rented 35L on my 5D and failed big time....

My 1st outing with this fantastic lens I bought 2nd hand....
trying to get my images sharper as I learn more from here

It should be 2 yrs international warranty and make sure you keep both warranty cards and the receipt.

Hi, want to check the warranty given in the box is 1 which write 3 years warranty in chinese and the repair shop is in HK right? My friend just got it back for me yesterday and that's what i found but the seller say it does have a 2 years international warranty.

Would just a 77mm normal hoya filter to protect the lens do fine?
