Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

I got my tokina on valentine day for $910 cash and carry from one of the merchant here. Yesterday, i went shopping at Sutera Mall in JB, i was quoted RM$2100 from the shop which roughly cost $880 plus. Furthermore Nissin 622MII only costs RM$440... I got myself a BW uv MRC 010 from the shop for RM$215. Anybody use this uv filter for this lens?

I've been following this thread for months.
sorry for the Noob question here ...
anyone using this lens to take portraits / wedding ?

Don't ever use for portrait. It is really distorted.. ESP at the side of the picture.

Amazing? Not in the person true form you mean. Lol. You can still try if you want. IMO, I tried to take a head on shot of dog, very cute.. Big nose and head!

Anyway, I tried to take group pic with this lens before.. Center of the picture was ok but not the side of the picture as mentioned.

Of cos not in this context. Pure portrait fashion magazine. Using a UWA correctly, giving different perspective to create powerful image. You must place the model correctly though.

UWA can create an effect machiam the subject's legs are slim and long. ;)

But on the hind side, it can also makes the subject's legs look really short.

Taking from top down will give us the effect of short legs and bottom up will makes the legs look longer?

Ermm I do... Did it... Look into my flickr.

Bottomline, as gurus seniors mentioned, it depend how u compose the photos. Yes slight distortion @ 11mm, correctable easily by photopshop cs. But sometimes, distortion, can be 'nice' too, special effect. Just like why theres fisheye lenses, it simply 'badly distortion' lenses. Right?

I think it an excellent affordable uwa lens :) but I wonder y so much peoples are letting it go.... :(

Well, to be honest, the discount price they offer for the current tokina is huge. A new piece could easily cost you $850 or more at other places. A second hand pcs hovers ard $750 to $800.
If they are really selling at $740, there's no other better time to buy but now!

Just gave them a buzz. Price turned out be S$940 instead. :bsmilie: No fate yet with this lens. Haha!

Yea got mine for $940 also. someone got it for $910, thats a good price. I got mine from TK. Anyhow, portraits, yea the distortion is pretty bad on the side of the lens, makes ppl look "wider". But at times, it can be fun. For example, i shot a dog at a beach, and this dog's nose was just in front of my lens and i shot it, the picture turned out very very nicely, made the dog's nose alot longer and made it cuter too. I brought this lens to a safari just last month and it didnt fail, was brilliant at twilight, captured the hot air balloon ride while setting up in virtually no light, performed at 7 degrees in the morning and barely 4 hours later it was 32 degrees, it was fine, no condensation issues. Overall, am very pleased with this lens just because its a 2.8 and very sharp at an affordable price.

Hi~anybody use this lens to take portrait before? Can share some photo, please:)

My friend finally brought back this lens from HK for me. I brought this baby to USS and it does give me nice pics especially in front of the castle. For taking portraits, it's still not too bad. Maybe i'm not a fussy person.

However, 1 bad thing is tt you have to stand really near if want to take pics of the performers.

i am at Shanghai now. They are selling at around SGD$770/unit (Sony Mount). Is this price ok to purchase? 3 yrs local warranty but guess we cannot use it when we are in singapore....
