Wah...Will need to top up quite a lot even after selling my tokina...hmm, wait and see. ;p

CA is not that much of an issue to me.

BUT flaring (e.g., on the 12-24 f/4) is a big problem for me. These ultrawide lenses are designed after all for outdoor landscape use.

If the 11-16 f/2.8 has EXCELLENT optical quality (sharpness from edge to edge when wide open, resistant to flare), I will consider getting one.

Hmm. Sharp edge to edge when wide open. I don't know if you're asking for too much. So far, the only lenses that I've used that are sharp edge to edge wide open are the 70-200 f/2.8L IS and the 70-200 f/4L. Let's not even go into wide lenses. None of them are sharp edge to edge wide open, partly due to field-of-view curvature.

14-24! :D

For real? Corner to corner?

Saw a comparison between Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 vs Canon 14 f/2.8L and Canon 16-35 f/2.8L on 1DsMk3. The Nikon was significantly sharper than both Canon lenses at the corners. Unfortunately, I did not bookmark it.

Photozone has some results too although the camera used is d300, so not FF: http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Nik...4-24mm-f28-g-ed-n-test-report--review?start=1
If Canon has such a lens, I will have bought it. In my personal collection, the Canon ultrawide is my biggest disappointment.

Erm....we are talking about a 95,000yen lens here leh....:bsmilie:

You are right but the Canon 16-35 f/2.8L and 14 f/2.8L are just as expensive, even though the performance of the Canon lenses are rather pathetic... Sigh

I duno about Canon...I am a Nikon user....no comment from me. But I wouldn't benchmark this 95000yen Tokina 11-16 against the 14-24.:p

So, what's news? ;p

And good news!! Instead of the 95,000yen, they are on sale in Japan at only 60,000Yen, which is about SG$800!!!! Good catch!!

Now got to see more sample pics and reviews.:)

This is the translation of the site below:

"It is digital private super wide angular zoom of the large aperture, opening contraction F2.8. As for focal length 11? 16mm. Price reaches 9 ten thousand 4,500 Yen. The super wide angular zoom "AT-X 124 PRO DX which" covers 24mm from 12mm is lined up to トキナー from the time before. As for latest AT-X 116 PRO DX, although from that the wide edge at focal length has become 1mm minute wide, tele side also 8mm is short, zoom magnification ratio is the lens which reaches barely approximately 1.45 times from 2 times. Usually, as for digital private standard zoom, focal length of the wide edge from 16mm is 18mm. As a result, when you use combining with digital private super wide angular zoom similarly, the range where focal length doubles is many. That are also times when it is convenient with that, but like wastefulness there was also a thing which is thought. As in this lens the doubling of focal length of standard zoom holds down, you can obtain the opening contraction of the result F2.8 of trade-off of low zoom magnification ratio, you are finished in the valuable bright lens as a digital private super wide angular zoom. Angle of view when you install in Nikon D300 and D80 etc. with 35mm format conversion from 16.5mm is suitable to 24mm (with in case of CANON 17.6? It becomes 25.6mm). When zoom magnification ratio reason of the aforementioned sort, looking the finder, the one which is not expected to the change of angle of view excessively is better. But for the bright opening contraction, to grasp the state of focus there is many also a thing which is felt easily. In the zoom ring focal length is cut at the 1mm unit. The focusing ring adopts the one-touch focusing clutch which changes to AF/MF with front and back sliding. There is also the stripe uninformed moderation is lacking a little in operation, by comparison with the lens which changes to seamless, but while it is ready the camera because it is changed quickly, that the treasure it may do what. The torque impression at the time of MF of the focusing ring is moderate ones. By the way shortest photographing distance becomes approximately 30cm. When it becomes super wide angular zoom, the fact that after all it becomes matter of concern probably is description of distortion and the picture periphery. In the wide edge as expected D torsion of barrel type appears, but in the tele edge satisfactorily revision. When of the angle of view which is obtained is thought it is the impression that zoom all to be good it has persevered. It probably is the result of holding down zoom magnification ratio low. Around if barely occurring in opening, also light intensity decrease, squeezing a little, are improved largely and, the flow of the picture are little. Being sharp ヌケ is good, it is the point where this lens should feature also the fact that you can obtain the description which has メリハリ. Is personal, but it was the place where exactly digital private super wide angular zoom of the Nikon mount is searched. It goes without saying to examine the purchase of this lens rather forward. As for the file ahead linking the work example, it is something which it copies and renames the picture which was photographed with JPEG and. The photographing data under work example squeezes and the use body/record resolution (pixel)/exposure mode/exposure time/value/exposure correction value /ISO sensitivity/white balance/displays actual focal spot distance. For emphasizing when item of part is excerpted in 1st line, it is."

Thanks for the link. Will pixel peep the images at 11 and 16 mm to decide whether it's worth getting. :bsmilie:

I have colleagues going to Tokyo on mid March (17-23).

Is the lens already available in Tokyo ? Anyone bought / test it ?

Cheers,

This is no match for the Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8. Not even close.

On the flip side, I have saved myself some money. :D

Next up: Tamron 10-24.

I think it should be on the shelf now....do a search in www.yahoo.co.jp and you will find many shops selling, but no sure about the stock level.:)

Please update with some sample shots if you ever buy it. Thanks!:)

According to my Japanese colleague, this is the best site to check for lens :
http://kakaku.com/sku/pricemenu/lens.htm
66800 Yen, then you can claim 5% GST.

Perhaps others can also suggest other alternative website.

Cheers
