in fact many youngster wun know this...

the old shaw cinema at shaw tower... their first row seats is also not available for purchase. ;p

but newer cinemas dun follow this tradition anymore and i think this old shaw cinema is the last in sg that still follows this tradition.

Shaw Centre was not even during my time.
The years when I started going to cinemas is during the mid-90s when cinemas in the heartlands (such as clementi) where It WAS very "hip" during the 90s.

i suppose it's just common respect not to block the VIPs. afterall, the show is for those brothers and sisters that are having their long awaited vacation.

front row seats are usually for VIPs.. if you block them, it's disrespectful.

and also... these advices most probably stemmed from experiences from the past. it'll be hard to pin-point what happened as to create all these advices

as a mark of respect, the first row is reserved for them, as in its tradition from way back in the past.

iirc, in olden days, the 1st day is for them. later on, to cut cost, only 1st row is reserved.

but i may be worng.

Over the past few years, during the 7th Lunar Month (Hungry Ghost Festival), there have been many people going to shoot Getai performances.
This year, I think there are still who wants to shoot the Getai performances..

An Getai insider told me to remind photographers these things when they go shooting..


Here are some things that you can take note of:
- Some Getai do not encourage people to take photos.
- If strange things happened (power trip, rain, mic no volume etc.) while snapping photos, please respect by stop shooting (a belief that "good brothers" are not happy).
- If nobody is sitting on the first row (but have chairs), try not to stand right in front to snap pics.


Something worth taking pics..
Ming Zhu sisters may be having their last year on stage as a pair (maybe you can try snapping shots of them together on stage).


GOOD LUCK!!!

During the 7th month festivals,
Getai and wayang performance
sometimees reserve the front row seats for deities.
or the seats would be fenced by a red string
or there would be a stack of incense paper with or without joss-sticks.
please take note of this and not offend them....
