Thoughts on LEICA M ?

All dealers now have 1 on display.

I got a call from Leica too. The stocks are in since yesterday, and due to be released tomorrow...Checked the price, and it has been marked up considerably - S$10,800 for body. There was no mention about bundle deal.

Nice price. Thats more than SGD2000 more than what I paid for mine.

B&H advertised as USD6,950 or S$8,600

SO plus GST 7% should be going for around S$9,200 in Singapore

Where would you buy it in Europe?

England, Germany, Vienna etc. Look for the dealers that give you back the most VAT. It ranges anywhere from 10 to 15% if you pay via credit card to 16 to 19% if you pay via bank transfer (more trust involved). Better yet if you or the dealer have export accounts.

Euro6200 X 0.81 (minus VAT) X 1.07 (GST) + shipping and insurance.

I know some people under declare to save the GST which is quite substantial but then insurance won't pay out if things go wrong.

Having said that, it is a little late to place an order now since most dealers already have a long list of preorders.

Price of Leica products are the highest in Asia comparing to Europe and US.

However lets not forget the equation about availability and when.

For those of us who wish not to wait for too long will have to pay the premium. On the other hand do not complain about long wait if $ is what is compared solely.

Why do you think Leica choose Asia to launch the new M and why SG is first in Asia to be available with the new M?....go figure out the answer.

The official stores are owned by Max Photo no? My card receipt once showed that....

( Max, Click and the 3x Leica Stores are the same company. )

You guys certainly have your facts right! Operations at the official Leica Stores are no longer run by Max Photo since last year and are now run by Leica Camera Asia Pacific. I hope you will be able to resolve any issues you have.

On a side note...

Some fortunate ones will be collecting their cameras today.

I wouldn't be too eager to get the camera at the moment. Better to let others enjoy the joys of early adopter bugs which there are sure to be plenty, knowing Leica.

I am fine with the bugs. My M9 has served me well from the day it was released and is now still serving me well in the form of a M9-P.

What I am afraid of is that Leica just raised the price of the M in Singapore. This feels alot like what they did with the Monochrom, only to drop it by 1K with the second batch.
