You want your Leika to work without seeing too much issues mah!
But yeah.
The World could have stopped circa 2005 with 12mp FF and things could have been good enough.
It certainly did not prevent good images to be made.
For the generalist, I would still think a bit more mp over 12 gives sone flexibility.
12mp is a bit more specialised.
It can't be anything less than a 24 mp sensor, more likely a 36 mp imo. Pentax is so late in the game its got to pull out all the stops to make it happen. If not it won't even be in the running.

Jk, I wasn't for a Pentax 12mp FF if my message wasn't clear enough, and certainly no leica involved here.
What I think is Pentax really need something substantially higher, esp. if they want to cater for the crop lenses they have. I think based on what I saw from the 36mp was it goes down to about 14mp or slightly more. Whether a not it's in the running, who knows. Just make sure they deliver on their commitments, and I think Pentax user base will be happy.
I've already grown used to the small size of the X series and M4/3. Lazy liao.. Though I must say the X series interface is actually not so suitable for landscape. Turning dials to manually bracket can move the camera a bit. But I can accept the trade offs. Plus no UWA mentioned yet.. Heh.It will be interesting how many who have moved on or own other camera brands will come back and own this Pentax FF. The new FF will have to over deliver to even come close to current offerings in terms of price and spec. If there are no teething issues that have plagued cameras like the D600 or D750, I see a good opportunity for Pentax to create a loyal following.
Yes lah! *waits for the flood of second hand K3s and K50s*
