The NEW Nikon D7000 or Nikon D300s ?

Well bought my d7000 already last weekend. Vote goes to d7k. I dun use my cam to make money. Im just learning how to take pic. So doesn't matter if the pixel is hot or cold!!! But so far haven't see see any bight pixel or dark spot on my cam yet. Or maybe I dino how to see it. Any advise? Newbie here.

Nikon have already confirmed the issue for D7000.

I would recommend D300s for the readers, the reliability & quality has been proven over the time ... :thumbsup:

it's true that the issue is being fixed right now.. but after all the issues smoothed out, i guess d7000 might make a better choice. but ergonomics wise, i would still prefer the d300s :thumbsup:

This is not only about the specs, but when you are holding and shooting with D300s, there is an "unexplainable" wonderful feeling, that you are shooting with one of the best semi-pro camera in this world.

One new pros of D300s over D7000 :
D300s has Chromatic Aberration Reduction function in the body, similar with D700.

So do the EN-EL3e ! As long as We are not shooting with the pop-up flash, my old EN-EL3e also would consume about the same power.

I just don't like that Nikon keep changing the battery

Nikon keeps changing batt type-- Yes, rather they come out with a new version of the same series with higher capacity cpmpatible with earlier body, example ENEL3F, than a totally diff batt.

D7000 with ENEL15 similar batt life as D300s on ENEL3e?-- Don't think so. Prior similar situation (with 70-200VR ) using d300s on ENEL3e shooting NEF+JPEG, by the 500 frame mark it's ususally closer to 50 to 60% capacity remaining already, even with fresh ENEL3e.

Having said that, D300s does have the advantage of the option to use the even higher capacity ENEL4a batt, and obtain higher frame rate at the same time.

Frankly, I like reading Kenrockwell reviews mainly lack of better one out there sometimes, I think it is entertaining but one should take it with a pinch of salt. Canon gear has a very good reviews site but they are only beginning to add Nikon stuff, http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/

It would be naive to say D7000 is the best APS-C dslr just because it is newer with the latest technology and features at this time. People are buying into the system not just a camera body, i.e. Sony, Pentax and Canon have their own users base, arguably they all think theirs is the best system out there.

I think the D300s folks should hold on and wait for the D400 or D300s replacement, I don't think it is an upgrade to move to D7000, same thing as lot of folks in the Canon forum argued that 7D is an upgrade to the FF 5D2 (just because the body is two years old) , or prior to 60D they are arguing 550D is an upgrade for 50D.

If a user is running to and fro between entry level, senior amateur and semi-pro camera body (as an when a new body is launched) than probably he is not a serious photographer but a serious shopper

I think should be snagsort not snapsort, there is a serious snag in the comparison. You don't compare a Ferrari with a Nissan base on reverse sensors, reverse camera and number of passenger seats. :think:

Looks like there's a whole load of problems on the d7000. But is the compatibility on the d7000 with third party lens (like tamron) bad? I heard people using third party lenses on the d7000 and faced AF problems or some sort.

That has always been a problem for 3rd party lenses when new cameras are launched not just Nikon.
