if you've had the chance to look at the plastic, there are 'rounded-lines' (for lack of a better word to describe) on both pieces,

the lines go vertically on one, and horizontally on the other, which diffuse the light vertically and horizontally, if the lines were on one piece of plastic, the likely effect would be a 'squar-ish' diffusion of light, making it uneven ...

I find in some of the pics (not just from Expireyogurt's shots) it seems the flash wasn't powerful enough. Is it bcos of the small amount of diffusion from the Flip-it?

The lighting is generally not as well distributed. The above is one good eg. The flash has created a "hotspot" on the bride's gown near her abdomen.

Anyone care to comment or do a side-by-side comparison with other types of flash diffusers? Thanks.

Whenever flash is bounced or diffused it will loose power. Many other factors contibute to the final brighness of the image you see on your screen, such as metering accuracy and camera/flash setting. So it may not really be insufficient flash power being the main and only factor.

The bridal gown is a lot more reflective than other fabric so it will turn out a lot brighter. The fabric may also have fluorescent properties such that it will actually glow visibly in response to the UV content of the flash.

As such that is not a fair judgement saying the light is unevenly distributed by the Flip-it, basing on the picture you have quoted.

expiredyoghurt's shots are pretty newb as he's mentioned - so i don't think can simply judge. Btw, he was using a fl-36 IIRC. first time shooting event like this so...

Just wondering, can the card flip all the way back (until its like no card at all)? In case of a quick switch scenario where I dont wnat any bounce and want direct flash.

can please explain why you flip the card down(with black side facing subject) but only using the 2 piece diffusers in the above picture?
