WOW! That is heavy! why dun get a smaller PnS like LX3, S90 or G11 instead? cheaper and lighter. The SLR already heavy weight and covers up to 250mm.

Heavy? You should see one of our bros who carries a 400mm lens wherever he goes. And that is only one of the lenses he carries when he travels. When I saw what he brought to Indonesia I really sweat.

Heavy??? The HX1 is a feather-weight camera despite it's heavy-looking appearance - it only weighs about 550g! In fact, I did not like the light-weightedness of the camera initially, but I have really come to appreciate the portability of this little wonder during my trip.

In addition, the HX1 also has a host of features not found in most other PnS:

- 28 - 560 mm equiv 'G' lens
- Ultra fast 10 fps continuous shooting speed
- HD movie recording at up to 1440x1080 at 30 fps
- Unique sweeping panorama, twilight, and anti-shake modes

To shoot some of the photos above you will need a 400mm lens on a dslr. Who actually carries such a long and heavy lens on holidays? Image stabilasation is also an issue at this range, so dslr not necessary sharper too. The HX1 is compact and light and is all self contained - but most importantly, it is available readily when needed. Maybe IQ not as sharp as a dslr, but still acceptable by my humble standards lah...

Actually I do carry long lenses along for holidays... my standard pack is the A900 with vertical grip + 3 lenses (17-35, 24-135 & 70-300G). Plus the F58-AM + 50mm f/1.7. Pretty heavy, but then for the sake of that photo and memory... I don't have the money to return to the many places I have visited before...

It's an awesome load of equipment that you are hauling along! Pretty impressive gears I must add too...

But I guess the purpose of the trip also matters as well. If it is a trip for a photo shoot, it is only sensible to pack in all the essential hardware so that you have the best equipment on hand for the job.

For me, it is more a holiday trip than a photo expedition. Got two small kids to take care of too and the luggages are already more than enough for me to handle. I almost wanted to leave the bulky DSLR at home and just go with the HX1!

For me, it's a holiday cum photo shoot...

That's only the photographic gear... there's the support gear as well...

A900 charger + NiMH charger + mobile phone charger
Travel adapter
Power strip (to charge a few things at one go)
Spare A900 batteries (I have 4)
Spare NiMH batteries (I carry up to 32 pieces for the flash, pity the vertical grip doesn't take AAs)
Cleaning kit (lens pen, lens cloth, lens tissue, cleaning fluid. blower)

The A900 batteries and a set of 8 AAs goes into the camera bag all the time. Plus the blower and lens cloth. The rest goes into the checked luggage...

Must always be ready for the unexpected... so carry more, shoot more, backup more...:bsmilie:
