slow down and use the rear brake more.

Every activity has it risk and need a certain level of knowledge to be practiced...

Knowledge meaning here how to handle the bike and how to protect yourself...

The bike doesn't go fast by itself, but because not controled properly.

There are warning signs and still the guy says : "I was going very fast...", please...

If you don't know how to handle a bike, just don't do it or at least, protect yourself a tad...

Please wear FACEGUARD and not helmet, wear knee, elbow guard and long sleeve and jeans and shoes and gloves.:) Know your bicycle well and stop pushing it to the limit.

Been into MTB like XC, downhill & freeride for 5 years before my P.3 rest firmly at my balcony.

All i can say for cycling is that speed is something within your control and looking far ahead is damn important. Learning to fall & ebraking is the basic of mountain biking, got scars around my leg & arm garther over the years but not as pro as Zhou Chong Qing who broke bones & teeth. Finally, never never forcus more on front brake unless u trying an endou or stoppe..........

Know your limits and be ready for risk if going beyond it ;) BTW, the bike for rent at Ubin got lousy brakes.....so it's meant for leisure cycling only.

they probably do not understand how bicycle brakes work. :hung:

Totally agreed.

Going fast within control is ok, without knowledge is just asking for trouble.

Master the front brake. It's the Singaporean mentality - remember the old internet circulated joke?

"I told him to be serious but he thought I was joking" - Policeman to speeding driver (or something like that)

I don't mind the falling but not if I have my cam hung on my neck....
:bsmilie:

always wear a cyclist helmet.. becos i dun think the reaction time is good enough to avoid a fall.

just go down slowly the slope will do....doh!

These are weekend warriors who DON'T understand the sport. As such, they are the ones who hurt themselves... Just check out with the MTB downhillers, they know the sport, they know how to control the bike so that even if they get a tumble, they won't be hurt that badly. It's those who are acting as HEROS that gets hurt...

But I sick of the bloody DJ, just y the media is reporting so much on someone who got injured when it's just solely his fault???
Maybe I should inform them 'How Suffer Only Cuts Even When A Taxi Hit U While Cycling'........guess can be front page news:cool:

fully agreed. just becos a kacang puteh DJ gets his pretty boy face scratched the media makes a big hoo haa and trying to add pressure to the authorities to do something about that stretch of road? It's just crap. I bet they wun even bat an eyelid if it was Chew Ah Beng who fell and broke his neck.

well... it is about "market value" of looks and voice in the media industry.

Well, sadly this is the case. Look at all the celebrity news recently. Paris Hilton in jail, Lee Ming Shun in jail, all simple issues but blown up because... THEY are FAMOUS. duh. :dunno: :sticktong

I've cycled Ubin for years, in sun and in rain, and only thing I worry about is mosquitoes..
Sometimes I speed down the slopes, but I always remember which brake to hit first..

Simple guide to using bicycle brakes:
1. Apply rear brakes first.
2. Tap front brakes gradually to come to start.
3. If you lock the front brakes FIRST, YOU GO AIRBORNE...

Just my say.. :)
