Thought I'd share this. I've just been to HK and checked this lens. quoted price is 8850 hkd, more or less S$1.4k. Shop name is Tin Cheung in TST. Darn sharp and heavy, will not balance on my d300s unless theres a battery grip.

825gram. HK price usually is lower compare to SG.

Just paid $1550 for the lens this evening at Alan Photo @ SLS. If pay by CC, its $1650. Prices incl GST

Thanks for the update. Thinking getting this lens for crop sensor so i can build my lens before going FF.

One more good thing about this lens: can be used for IR photography...

Canon 500D (600nm filter installed) + Tamron 24-70@70mm 1/500s, f4.5, iso100.

Anyone compare 24-70 with Tamron 17-50 IQ on Nikon Mount? Is it better or similar? If getting for crop camera it will lose the wide side but in terms of quick focusing and better IQ, then will sell away the 17-50 for 24-70.

Thanks!

Price Update.

tammy 24-70 vc

$1593 - shop in chinatown (local set)
$1653 - red dot photo. price during SITEX(IIRC)

Just spoke to my friend who is residing in Hong Kong right now. He confirms that this lens is worth about S$1,400 after conversion.

But he isn't sure about the length of warranty though. I think the Singapore sets enjoy a longer warranty?

all should b same, 5 years local.
grey set 1 yr.

I'm in HKG now and the price is around S$1400. They can arrange the warranty to be international but only for 1 year. I have email Tamron Singapore early this year and they advise the difference is the warranty which is 5 years in Singapore. I see a bro bought it at $1550 in Alan Photo? I rather take 5 years warranty then save $100-200....cheers

I thinking about it. Using it's brother 28 75 f2.8 now. But like to keep weight low too.

Thanks for all the inputs guys...was comtemplating on a used EF 24-70 I or II or this lens for more than a month now...i can save about $1200 from MII if i get this lens & its brand new will definitely be better than a used MI...

The VC will be an advantage too..

Will be heading to Funan tomorrow...:bsmilie:

I used the 28-75 on 5D2 and the reason why i'm hesitating is because of the AF speed of 28-75.

Thanks Fable.
This lens balances nicely on the 5D3. I'd imagine on the 6D it will be a little front heavy, but that shouldn't be a problem.

The 24-70 will definitely be faster. Only caveat as mentioned before, is in low light, it will take a bit longer to acquire focus.

Using d700 with this len, it sure hunt in ballroom environment, if i am using single point af. I switch to multi af and let the cam decide focus pt ,it helps a lot.
