Yea, i'll still bring it down anyways nag get them to do a check and let them do their test and if they say nothing wrong, then maybe it's just my skill or me being picky

just to share that it may take a while for the service centre to get it fixed. mine had occasional 'err-01' where the aperture blades won't immediately. technician said gotta send it back to japan coz they don't have the parts for such a new product. expected 4-5 weeks wait.

It's all right..i'm in no hurry to use it anyways…i hope its just a simple calibration..it's already with the TSC now…Anyways how can it be a new product when it is launched over 6mth liao?

ya, that's what i thot so when he mentioned that he didn't have the parts for such new product. perhaps it's the aperture unit that's not commonly stocked, or too sophisticated to repair locally.

Then again, i think you also rather they repair in Japan then to repair in SG hehe….
Anyways, see how la..the TSC never even talk to me and ask me the problem, just fill in form and hand over to the reception…can't even explain to the technician…i seriously hope they don't have to replace or change anything…i doubt it'd be the same again if they're going to take it apart Just my luck…lucky i dun use it often hehe..

Just got a call from TSC..hash, they say need to send back to Japan for calibration because it's new model…takes 5 weeks..
Seriously….a service center that can't even do calibrations? Sigh, i had this lens for only 3 weeks, and will be away for the next 5 weeks…oh well, hope they fix the problem or at least give me a new one without the problem!

Rec'd a call from the service centre y'day to collect the lens; half the waiting time from the expected 4-5 weeks estimate Looked like the sticky aperture problem thoroughly solved when I tested on 1D MkII firing at 8fps for few bursts.

I also received the call yesterday to collect the lens tested it today..indeed they fixed the problem…it' sharp now….although i've not had the time to throughly test it properly…but already it looks better

Spinworkxroy: may I know the settings for both your shots? I am contemplating to get this lens or canon 70-200 F4 L IS USM. Read review about the tamron but apparently some said the shots are very soft throughout and the IQ not that good. Please advise since you have it. Thanks.

Well, let me save you the trouble…if you're thinking of the 70-200 f4 IS and can afford it, then forget about this lens….it's not in the same class and well, isn't made to be
This is a $700 lens…that is double the price…you can't really compare a toyota with an Audi can you
I myself would've preferred to get the 70-200 but i decided against it because i don't use a tele lens that often enough to justify buying one and 700mm sometimes isn't enough for birds and wildlife..70-200 actually is a journalistic type lens not for birds etc..mane with an extender you can…but..that will cost more again.

The Tamron, is a good supertele lens with good reach for times when you need it…it's not meant to be a superb IQ lens….you can't expect it to be at that price It's good t what it does and it's price and amongst all the other 70-300 (excluding the L), i think this is rated very highly as one of the best

Second Spinworkxroy. cannot compare this lens with the 70-200 f4 L. Total different class. The L lens totally beat the Tammy hand down. You need to know what you need the lens for.

I bought the Tammy mainly for landscape. Stop down to to f8-11, the lens is as sharp as I need for taking landscape. It is less eye catching than a white colored lens when abroad (safety from being rob) and lighter than my MF primes. can still take some bird pictures, but don't expect too much.

IQ of a Tammy is definitely not as sharp a the L, but imo the 70-200L is neither that great when compared with zeiss primes. So it really depend on how much IQ u need.

I did another simple handheld test in my bedroom today with 3 lenses and I'm very impressed with this Tamron

All shots were taken handheld at 200mm F5.6 (except the PZD which was 6.3) and at ISO1600 on a Canon 60D

1) Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 IS II

2) Tamron 18-270 F3.5/6.3 VC PZD (this is the new super tele lens)

3) Tamron 70-300mm F4-5.6 VC USD

Personally, the PZD does well but it's no match to the other 2 lenses. It isn't made to be anyways..it's a fantastic light travel lens that does everything.
The Canon L is after a Canon L and at 2.8 it's quite hard to beat..but i had to take at 5.6 because he Tamron can't go 2.8
The Tamron 70-300 being so much cheaper actually holds it's own with the L..it's not identical but i would say at least 80% similar and for this price..quite hard to beat...

Here are some photos taken today at Formula drift with this lens….photos are cropped to get rid of people's heads…all shot in jpeg and not raw…again, very satisfies with this lens's sharpness…almost on par with the 70-200 which i also used today..

The Macro one is the old model…the new one is the USD version and it is vastly improved over the old one

In short, yes. VC USD has better glass XLD ( that is what it advertised), Ultrasonic motor instead of DC motor in the focusing drive, and vibration control to reduce shake.

between the 2, it is better to buy the newer version.

anyone encounter this problem? I realised i cant manually override the autofocusand take a picture. In the end, got the switch to manual focus. The lens jus re-autofocus whenever i press my shutter down, even when i hold the focus ring.
