Both are true with all lens of the same design, and same issues with other brands budget range.

Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting this lens.

I've read from a few sites that

1) there is an issue with dust getting sucked when zooming.
2) there are issues with QA and ppl have gone through a few lens before getting a good copy

Anyone faced such issues or have major problems with it? Anything I should know before making a purchase?

Almost all zoom lenses will get dust into in after some usual. Even the weather seal one.
Did read online some has bad copy, but not only on this particular lens. Any brand may has bad copy.
For the price, had saw quite lot gd comment on this lens.

Is there any way to remedy focus issues, if there is any? My camera has an APSC sensor and does not have AF fine tune settings. This is actually my biggest concern.

You are out of luck. Test the sharpness and focus before commiting.

For everything else that seem extraordinary, learn photoshop/Lightroom/bridge. Etc

manufacturers have an allowance for their focus accuracy, if your camera does not have fine-tune you will have to send to the service center. however, since this is not technically a fault(its within their allowance) you may be charged for calibration services...

Not sure abt Tamron, but had sent a sigma lens for calibration before foc. Think that u only able get free calibration for certain nos of times only during warranty period.
(do note only for local warranty set).
But u do have to leave ur camera with them for calibration (for sigma, believe same for other brand)

not sure and I the only one.

just bought a local set tamron 70-300usd vc and I did few test to compare with my 55-200nikkor vr len.

im very shock to realise this plastic nikkor is better. focus better at nite n iq is also better than this more ex tamron.

I realise thia tamron is more soft. either I got the soft copy or ??

anyone facing the same problem?

Wow that doesn't sound good, since i am intending to buy this lens soon.

did u test the lens when buying it from the shop?

@all: is there any shop that allows u to check the AF accuracy of lense? like using the spyderlenscal autofocus calibration aid.

Someone in this forum once tell me that DXOmark is kind of a bible to lenses... so I take the liberty to compare the Nikkor 55-200 lens to the Tamron 70-300mm.

http://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Compa...70-300mm-F4-5.6-Di-VC-USD-Nikon___235_0_281_0

The result is as shown, feel free to make your own conclusion.

Actually I just tried it again outdoor.
Tamron is better la

I just took my Tamron 70-300 out for a spin today. It was just calibrated by Tamron earlier this month - sent it in to get AF fixed (bought from buy/sell and didn't check properly, AF was spoilt. Luckily under warranty still). I find the focus soft @ 300mm but if I pull it back a bit to about 250-270mm it performed pretty well.

So is the calibration foc n how long it took?

Btw is the warranty card Filled up n send out before 14days by the previous owner?

All in took 1 week. Lens was under warranty so it was foc including AF repairs. Original owner provided receipt and filled warranty card, but it wasn't sent in. Tamron SC just verified date of receipt to determine if warranty was still valid.

pardon my ignorance but i just started photography not long ago ... how do i determine autofocus accuracy without equipment like the spyderlenscal autofocus calibration aid?

I printed some charts, stuck it on a wall and try to aim at the center when autofocusing. then i check the image on the computer to see whether the image is sharp or not.

is that how autofocus checks are done?

Don't need all those high tech gadget. A ruler will do. Put your camera + lens on a tripod, point to the ruler and focus on a number on that ruler, then check the result to see if the number you have focused on was sharp or was the number on top or below sharper, this will determine whether the lens had back or front focusing issue.

1. It's a zoom, sooner or later dusts will get in, esp so if you frequently shoot in dusty places.

2. True, I was one of the less lucky ones, fortunately, Tamron SG has great customer service, allows me to test copies from 2 different batches, turns out that there were some issues with earlier batches.

Anyway, I have this lens for about 3 years now, it is one of my favorite, works both on DX and FX body.
