I see, and you are right - I am using Standard style for most of my shots. Alright, I will try with neutral ~ many thanks for your kind sharing.

the issue lies with the 40D.. what picture style were you using? standard tends to bump up the red a lot. the overall saturation is also increased in standard.

i usually use neutral with my 40D ;)

Strange as it look, when I bought Tamron 28-75mm, I took a shot at a swan (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30942158@N06/3926996230/). It appears sharp to me.

3 months down the road, I took another shot (http://www.flickr.com/photos/30942158@N06/3926996338/), and it appears soft??

I have heard that Tamron QC is not up to standard, but does the len degenerate every 3 months?

By the way, I am using 40D with Standard Picture Style, and that Tamron 28-75mm lens.

hmm... I tot it was sigma that had QC problems(which is why i still haven't picked up the guts to order from overseas even though its so much cheaper). Anyone can confirm this degeneration? Getting my 28-75 this weekend =X

Its not so much the degeneration part, its more of the focusing inconsistencies inherant in the lens ?

I had some problems with my 17-50 on the 40D when I still had them. Focusing was a little unpredictable at times , sometimes totally off, yet at times I get shots that bested the top 'L' glass for sharpness and contrast. :dunno:

Those were the only crop components in my camera kitty, so I sold them off when I got my 5Dmkii. Another friend on also a 40D reported a similar problem on his set ( 40D, tamron 17-50) too. All this was more than 6 months ago. No idea if things have changed in any way since...

On man, I think it is the focusing issue. Frankly speaking, Tamron seems to be weak in focusing. I have read many many forums detailing such issue. And they have to send it back and back again to get the engineer to service it. By the way I have sent in twice already...

I must also agree that if the focus spot on, the sharpness rivals that of 'L' lens!!
Even as sharp as my friend's 24-70mm L, yet at 1/3 the price...

Sheesh, I think I should start mastering my manual focus...

Hey Kenneth, do check that the version you got is 'Made in Japan'!! Mine is, but the service centre had 'Made in China' model... Be careful.

ok thanks, will check out that out :)

ok got my 28-75. Its the assembled in china one though but ok lah since for the price I paid for a 2nd hand one plus its AF-D so not too bad. Only thing is got 1 speck of dust inside but so far it doesnt seem to affect my shooting. Going SIN tmr so will give it a good test. BTW anyone knows any shop that does cleaning of lens? might wanna send this one plus my 80-200 in for cleaning later on in the year.

Kenneth, care to share your shot at SIN using the 28-75?

sorry but i din really take my shots there using the tamron as it was rather crowed whenever the race queens were around so I spent most of my time just looking at the cars(the police car was quite nice :D)

Will try to shoot some stuff around the house and post here later.

edit : Here are some random shots in the house

pretty fast for mine...as usual QC issues..the consistency is not there...
to ensure i got my subjects in focus i will shoot at f4 to play safe...f2.8 only when close-up...

Just checking rdg the inconsistency you mentioned. When U say "the consistency is not there" do you mean one shot is sharp the nx blur? What i realised this morning when using this lens (jus bought 2nd hand) when I slightly de-press the shutter release button at first, the AF it's sharp, then when I press again, it went blur, then press again, it's sharp, then blur:dunno:

Does anyone else experience this?

yup something like this...it will focus other things somehow..

the "blur" could also be due to handshake :)
otherwise it might be front or back focussing..

No, it's nothin like that cos I only depress 1/2 way for AF to work but you can see thru the viewfinder it's not in focus. Now if I use this lens I'll depress a few times until I get a good AF fix then I take the shot

hi.., just want to share, taken w/ tamron 28-75mm :)

Hi! Can I check whether focussing for tamron 28-75 is slower than tamron 17-50? And can I check what size uv filter the 28-75 takes? tia :)

67mm, same as tamron 17-50 filter size

cjsaya
tks :)

Anyone can help on the focus speed of this lens as compared to the 17-50?
