Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS if money is not an issue for you.
Better build? :bsmilie: Unlikely.
it is better built. if u turn the zoom ring u can feel the difference immediately. then focusing also faster. i did a head to head comparison as my fren is using a tammy and another is using the 17-55. tammy feels stiff and hard to manipulate but 17-55 is smooth, fast and quiet. 17-55 build is bigger as well.
I using 500D, so i not sure shld i get a VC or NON-VC..
The Tamron has a better build than the 17-55mm. The zoom ring on the latter lens gets very loose after a while.

Tamron has better built than Canon, at least that's for me after using 'em. Focusing wise, its an obvious thing since Tamron doesn't have fancy feature like USM which Canon has.
And its normal for it to be stiff for new lens. It will loosen up after prolong usage. Bigger build doesn't equate to better quality.
yup, bigger built does not equate to better quality. i was jus stating the size difference. i beg to differ in your point where new lens are stiffer. i jus got a 17-40mm last week n its super silky smooth when it comes to zooming. its accurate yet easy. if u try, u ll know the diff.
I have 17-40mm and I don't think if that's a good comparison if you were to ask me. I've tried out bunch of L lenses, some are stiff (despite being brand new if your point is new lenses are supposed to be smooth) and required slightly more force to zoom than using the seasoned ones.
Do think about it.
i am thinkin about it. y is it not a good comparison? we were talkin about brand new lenses. i duno about other L lenses as i only have one. so i guess i had speak from my experience with the lenses that i mentioned and thats it. if u have other thoughts it s fine man. everyone hav their own thoughts. i am jus givin my unbiased findings for potential buyers.
Did u send it your warranty? Not sure need to or not...:dunno:
I'm giving my 2 cents worth of findings too, no offense though. All those lenses, be it Tamron 17-50mm VC, Canon EF-S 17-55mm IS or Canon EF 17-40mm, I've 'em tested, tried and came to my own conclusion for that.
And if Tamron's zoom ain't a little stiff, most probably the user will be annoyed by the zoom creep issue.
Hi Chipdale, I sent in my warranty to qualify for the voucher.
Tamron would probably need that together with your receipt of purchase to validate your warranty period.
Another method that they might use, would be to estimate the "age" of your lens via its serial number, therefore gauging when it was dispatched to a vendor.
Hope this helps.
hmmm ur photo is slightly more blue compare to my non VC copy. u own both copy, can you confirm the difference between the non-vc and vc copy? hmmm....Hi Everyone,
Just now went to Chinatown and managed to get some snap shots with my new Tamron 17-50 VC..
Overall still quite satisfied with the performance of this vc version, i used to have the non-vc version when i was using a Canon DSLR.
All was shoot at f2.8 except the last one which was shoot at f4. Quite happy with the sharpness.

The previous Tamron len that i own which had the non-vc version was with a Canon 500D, now is a Nikon D90 with vc version.. So i'm not so sure about the color different as canon and nikon may have different color tone..
You using which camera anyway??
