Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC

EOS, the AF ring does move when focusing.

Need to keep your fingers away from the AF ring for those who have the habit.

Hi, can i check with the seniors here if the lens is able to mount on my Nikon d60 or d7000? Planning to get the lens for d60 and then upgrade to d7000 some time later.Really very tempted to ask my friend to get for me from HK because it's cheaper there.

Finally got to own a 17-50 F2.8 VC yesterday. Impressed with the IQ and this len produces much better images as compared to my current D90 kit len 18-105.
As for the motor sound when focusing, its no big deal to me. Weight wise still manageable (abt same as 18-105).
Still exploring what settings would suits the 17-50 on my D90:)

Read some comments on front/back focus in this thread. Is this a common issue with Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens and if it happens, where to send the lens for calibration?

Just curious, anyone here got their tamrom calibrated at JEL? How was the experience?

Hi bro,

i don't know if you're purely doing your friend a favour by doing the exchange but i strongly advise against it. First and foremost, the sigma is NOT a constant aperture lens ie. its a 2.8-4.5. Thus even if the lens its sharp, it will set you back a lot. Its a lot slower. If thats the case i might as well get a tamron non-vc for around the same price.

I also mentioned the 2nd point about pricing above. He has to top up if you really gonna deal with the exchange.

Also, if the lens is okay for you already, why disturb the equilibrium? I suggest you ask your friend to sell the lens in the BnS and get a non-vc version for around the same price, or top up for the VC one.

Anyway I got a question about this lens. How fast is the AF in normal/bright lighting condition compared to relatively low light? And is the lens soft at 2.8 as complained by many? A lot of CSers i think bought the non-vc as they believed the VC had QC problems. What is your opinion? :bsmilie:

Hi guys !

I am another happy owner of this versatile lens.

It took me 3 months to consider this lens and finally I got my hands on it.

Consideration

Setup [1]:
35mm f/2.0
85mm f/2.0

Setup [2]:
17-50mm f/2.8
85mm f/2.8

I am tied down by these 2 setup.
Reason? I wanted to own fast lenses, I guess many of us does.

End up, I got Setup [2] as I feel I loss the aperture of f/2.8-f/2.0=f/0.8,
and I can get a 17mm to 50mm. Which I can use it for Landscape, a General Walkabout including both day and night since I am able to use the f/2.8

The 85mm f/1.8 gives me more reach and a better bokeh. I am an enthusiast of shooting portrait and cars especially panning thus the 85mm f/1.8 with a USM certainly gives me a nice reach and faster AF speed and decent IQ.

Next, let me share with you my pictures taken with a

All shots are taken, and without Post Processing which means that all Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 users are able to achieve this type of shots.
