Nice to have returnable goods.
Now I just need to 'buy' an EF17-40 for a wedding event, then change it to the EF70-200F4 for a sports shoot, finally settling on an EF-S10-22 for travel, all in one week. ;)

Just hope .sg does not abuse this great service of J3:16, I agree they are really friendly and patient. I tested the Tam 28-75, sigma 17-70 and sigma 18-200OS there and still could not decide.
Back to thread - I like the Tam 28-75/2.8 best of the three. The Tam 17-50 was not in stock then.

as long as it is still in good condition, i don't see a problem. i mean if you were in faisalee's shoes, i guess you'd also appreciate john 3:16's flexibility, tio bo?

but would the shop be honest about it and inform the buyer that the lens in question has been tested over 2 days? or just gonna be sold as brand new still? :dunno:
i, for one, am quite anal about my things being being new, not taken out and tested outside of the shop.

I do believe that is abusing it.

not directed against u faisalee.. no offence :) ..

just an objective question..but what is going to happen to the lenses that has been used for 1-2 days and exchanged? continue to put up for sale to other customers as a "New" lens?? Or do they return the exchanged lens to the supplier?

Is this common practice in the other shops as well?? As in allowing returns and exchange of lenses that somebody used for 1 or 2 days cos they are not satisfied with it? I know exchange is common in US, but in Singapore?

None taken bro.

1 to 2 days used as in very lightly used as I am working so only once return home then can test. So the lens remain in brand new condition with brand new condition :p

I just wanted to highlight that they are VERY friendly make you feel as if its your own shop

Its still like testing lens in the Shop right! normally we will test various lens in the shop and once every thing fine buy it, isnt it. So the lens may get some scratches on the metal mount.

So don't worry about it bro. I for one, love their friendly service. I am sure you will also once you give them a try.

These 3 lens r also my ideal setup. Now only have 1 of them now.

I wasn't referring to you. ;)

:what: :embrass: :what:

Heh
Anyway, I read the start of the thread again. The TS is using a Nikon.

F/2.8 is probably the fastest for a zoom lens, I find that its usually not enough for most ambient light photos.
Best combi for ambient would be F/2.8 with IS/VR. Canon has one (heavy bulky expensive), dun think Nikon has one yet. High cost will be another factor
So get a non-IS/VR F/2.8 lens and marry it with a flash.

(note that J3:16 is not the only shop that allows flexi purchase)
In my last purchase the box and packaging was pristine, that means not previously handled. I bought it right away. Haven't returned it.... yet.

Cheers

care to elaborate what 'flexi' you mean? as in interest free instalments?

In this case I'm refering to lens changing.
If you are not happy with your current purchase, just top up the difference for another.
The piece you exchanged will be recycled to the next customer.

Interest free installments require the use of credit card. Think CP has that option.
For interest-free camera can go for HarveyNorman/Courts/BestDenki.

hi guys...

I am wondering which of the lens to get...

I have a kit lens (18-70mm f/3.5-5.6) and am thinking of getting one of the above lens to complement the kit lens but have no idea which will suit me better.

Price-wise, both are quite close. I can't decide whether to go for the one with more wide range or the one with more tele range. I am thinking of using this lens for portrait (i guess that's pretty obvious) and for indoor shots. If and when i travel, i will likely use this lens for landscape shots too.

So, which lens should i get?

IMO if you're going for portraits and landscape, the wider angle will be more useful to you. for portraits 50mm should be enough. hence, i would go for the 18-50 and get something like a 70 - 200 for the zoom.

cheers

for low light event/group shots (flash is still needed), 17-50mm. For portrait shots, get the KM 50mm f/1.7.

But if you plan to use the lens on full frame sensor in the future, 28-75mm is better.

Or to save money, use kit lens + KM 50mm f/1.7 + flash.

Just my hobbyist 0.000002 cents.

mmm.....now that u say it, sounds quite logical...

i wanna go for this tamron zoom f/2.8 coz it's more cheaper and versatile than prime lens....
i want to get the prime lens too but not now yet coz practise with the f/2.8 til i find the bokeh not attractive enuff... and until i can get the prime lens at good price...

full frame? sure i wanna get it but that will have to wait for either one or more of these:
(a) someone give/sponsor a full frame DSLR to me;
(b) i outgrow my current DSLR <which seems a remote possibility);
(c) my current DSLR screwed up and the full frame DSLR is less than $2k.
so i guess, it's not a major factor.....

i tried using the kit lens but:
1. bokeh not good enuff and only at 50mm and above for my kit lens....
2. offer too slow shutter speed in low light condition (hope to get quicker shutter speed so dun need tripod that often in low light situation)
so thinking of getting the new lens. What u think? is there a way around all this? also, i wait til i can afford the KM 50mm F/1.7 hehe:devil:

the bokeh of 17-50mm or 28-75mm f/2.8 cannot be compared to bokeh of 50mm f/1.7, even wehn shoot at f/2, if you really like good bokeh for portrait shoot and good pricing, this is the lens to go, it's way cheaper than 17-50mm or 28-75mm f/2.8. By using prime lens, learn to zoom with your feet  But for sure for fast pacing indoor event shoots, 17-50mm is the lens to go.

Another choice for cheap low light wide angle shoot is Sigma 28mm f/1.8, the bokeh is not too good, but still better than the other 2.

I don't foresee 2nd hand fullframe Sony DSLR price will go below S$2000 in 2 year times

Well, currently im using the tamron 17-55 f2.8. It functions pretty well at F2.8. very low light lens. however, sharpness is compromised as many people have been raising issues abbout the tamron lens not being sharp at f2.8. bought mine for about $660 from John. Not so sure about KM, but nikkor has a 50mm f1.8 prime lens at roughly $170-$190. good and cheap! next lens for me would definately be the 70-200 VR.. steep though :)
