Lethal budget combination! (Tamron 17-50 + 580EX II) :bsmilie:

yeah! thanks...but am very new to flash photography, so need all your advices on how to use it well. i just bought gary fong's lightsphere II yesterday, it looks good when i try it last night. yet to do a decent comparison.

Hi guys,

I am intending to get this lens. But i got 2 questions which i hope you can enlighten me:

1. I read that due to inconsistent QC, one needs to bring along a notebook and test out a few copies of Sigma lens in order to find a sharp one. Is it advisable to do the same for Tamron?

2. Does this lens work well with the TTL exposure of flash? BTW, I am using Nikon.

Thanks in advance for your advice ;)

1. You may wanna bring a notebook along, but generally they're all super sharp. Test a few copies just to play safe.

2. I've read abit about some flash exposure problems. Maybe other Nikonians can help.

wanna ask,
if i tested a unit for backfocus,
and it is 10mm for this lense - tamron 17-50 f/2.8

is it still acceptable?
the BF is on the middle or higher side?

This is going into focus distance charts and circle of confusion already. 10mm seems to be quite a large distance if you're shooting close-ups. I'd rather it not back/front focus at all. However, a problem is that Tithes Marketing doesn't do calibration so you'll have to wait while they send it back to Japan.

Sorry to interrupt this thread. Do you happen to know how much does Tithes Marketing charge for calibration of grey units? Coz i'm tinking of getting one but afraid it may not turn out to be a shary copy. Thanks in advance.

If it's under warranty, it should be free. However, they don't do it in-house, but send it back to Japan.

Any idea if it is cheaper or where to get the best rates in Aus (Melb & SYdney) coz I am currently here.

Hi all,

I've just joined the club of owning a Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Love the sharpness and bokeh for this price.

Pardon me for the poor WB and some handshake. Just want to share the bokeh joy. :)

I spoke to tithes mktg sometime ago. the lady told me that now they do basic repair & servicing jobs in singapore itself. whereas in cases where complex parts need replacement of major repairs the lens is sent back to japan. err...i think calibration might be locally done (not sure if that is considered minor or ...!?) cheers. :)

calibration is still done in japan. sg is for basic cleaning/CLA only. =)

Just to pop in since there has been mention of servicing and etc... Has anyone sent in their 17-50 for cleaning at tithes before?

I've got some annoying dust particles inside the lens as well as near the rear element, not that a big issue since it has been tehre for quite a long time already, but i thought of one day sending it before my warranty expires... any ideas? :)

The lowest price I was quoted for this lens last weekend was NT$11,200.

Hi David..

is this price quoted a cash price or can we pay by Credit Card? I am heading to Taipei soon, so I might just want to get the lens.

Can you pm or post the shop name and address pls.

Tks
