Tamron 150-600mm F5-6.3 ultra-telephoto zoom

Both shots are taken with a cropped body so those are like taken at 800mm and 960mm, if they were taken at say 50m, then bros and sis' on FF will feel like they are standing 30m (that's my "argaration") behind the TS. ;)

Both pictures looked very sharp though, I believe some level of sharpening have been applied in PS?

Tamron listed the length of the lens as 257.8mm, add another 13mm for a filter and front/back covers, should be around 27cm (again my "argaration") end-to-end, my dry-case should be able to swallow it whole, that's 1 less worry.

At less than 1.8K for a 600mm, this is definitely on my shopping list but need to get budget approval from my Finance Ministress first!

Thanks to the TS for sharing those pictures, I can feel the venom slowly inching towards my heart now... arrgh..:bsmilie:

Thanks for sharing, I am very tempted to get 1, but I know I will rarely use this gear. aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh.....

Albert store at your place is definitely a solution. I am going to shoot at Chingay. I can only use my 28-300mm for the time being. Buy a new Cabinet will be cheaper compare to transportation. I will go look for a larger cabinet when budget is approved.

Just get a big one. The 142L one with 2 doors fit this lens standing up. ;)

BTW, as tempted as I am for this baby... seems like it is too heavy to handhold. so my dreams of getting it to be my secondary handheld is shattered.

Thanks for the tip! Am also a hobbyist looking for an affordable super telephoto; was considering the sigma 150-500 but the Tamron has extra reach and from reviews I've seen online + videos of the lens, seems that the Tamron's AF is faster.

How did you find the speed of the Tamron?

Looks like I'll be calling SLR Rev soon for a quote haha.

If it is too heavy for you to hand-hold, it will shattered my dream too. May be if I get lens, I can only bring one lens out with a strong tripod and nothing else I can bring along.

May be I need to look for M43 solution.

1.9KG ok la for handholding hehe.... 3.3KG sigma 120-300 F2.8 also got ppl handholding haha

If u look at power consumption of a dehumidifier, I think u will be put off. It is cheaper to buy a gd dry cab tt runs 5 to 10 watts or perhaps 20w...than the 100s to a thousand or so watts for a humidifier that runs half a day daily and also likely to have a lower lifespan.

Hi FOCU5, yes, croped body your calculations on the 35mm fl equiv. is spot-on. I added a good amount of sharpening and some contrast in pp. I measured my lens with both caps on it's just under 285mm. All the best with the finance ministry :)

p.s. btw TS is Fable, I'm just another guy joining in this discussion thread :)

dd123, I see from your avatar you've got real solid biceps, this baby will be like a 18-55mm in your hands...ok lah I don't exaggerate too much- a 18-135mm :bsmilie::D

I too had been thinking of getting the sigma on & off for a long time but when this lens came along, the 600mm reach was too great a temptation :)

I find the AF speed to be pretty good, didn't experience any hunting.

I already convinced myself to forget any long lens, I cannot hold it steady. With guys talking of the AF good without hunting and the price, I think even I go for body building have the muscle like Albert would be too late.

Already 65, I think my thought going to M43 is correct, but please share your shots when you all get the lens.

Thank you.

for such focal length, its better to use a tripod or at least a monopod.
its not whether u are strong enough to handhold but its how long u can handhold it in a stable position.

Got this copy recently… haven't really tried outdoor but bokeh at f6.3 for distance subjects are good thus far. AF of course does not measure to those Canon primes of similar tele length but it is very usable and would say for this price range a very GOOD DEAL!

My first Tamron lenses, but I must say I am quite impressed! …
