Tamron 150-600mm F5-6.3 ultra-telephoto zoom

At that price, I rather pay SGD 100 more and have full 5 year local warranty.

Ya true. I will wait for buy from techno gadget, I think their price will be around $1200. N I will sell my sigma 150-500

Just picked mine up today from Cathay Photo! Canon mount for my 6D. FYI - from what I read, this lens performs better on a full-frame than on a crop sensor. I found availability for the lens at a few places at Funan (Bally Photo Electronics and one other spot). Price is all the same - $1699.

Will post some pics as soon as I've had a chance to put it through its paces.

will not be 1200. Grey sets should be around 1350 to 1400 IMHO.

According to b&h photo, this model is $200 USD cheaper than the tamron 24-70. In techno gadget, the 24-70 tamron cost abt $1200 sgd le

That is not how you guage pricing...

Today I sent my copy to GSH for servicing due to really HUGE dust particles found inside the lens.

I was told that the lens is new to them, they might need to send it back to JAPAN for 'servicing'.

It will take around 4-WEEKS to return, very annoying! Why are they not trained to service this lens locally???

I'm quite impressed with the VR on this lens. I have shaky hands problem (too much caffeine), but the VR still enabled me to shoot relatively ok photos handheld at 500-600mm with shutter speed of as low as 1/200. Similar attempts to shoot handheld with the Tamron 70-300 VR yielded fairly unusable shots.

Anybody know if the Sony model comes with VR too?and can it be used with the A99 IS? Or must disable either? Referring to 150-600 Tamron. Thnx!

Darn.. But in body stabilization for sucha super long lens.. Wonder if it'll be good Enuff compared to Nikon or canon..

Optic wise, should be the same. Actually for long tele-lens, even with VC in the lens, I would still recommend using a tripod or at least a monopod.

Yes I agree.. Not trying to stinge in dragging a tripod but would like to be able to take day shots without the shakes. So far the pics preview shows the Tamron can take relatively sharp, handheld in daytime.. But pretty sure the VC played a part too. Optic wise I'm sure they're similar, but i don't wanna commit to the lens till I'm sure the body IS is sufficient.. Else gonna be a sad camper.. :-(

I finally managed to get a nikon version of this lens.. Had to go quite a few shops, finally got it at SLR Revo. (Some shops have told me that stock will come in 2nd week of August). Lots of canon stock all over.

This lens is shootable handheld on my D810. BUT, only for the first few shots before your hand just gets tired and shakes more. A tripod/monopod is highly recommended. But yes, you can handhold shots with VC.

As with many reviews, the IQ is a lot better then expected for a SGD 16xx lens. Its way better then my 28-300mm 'upscaled'. I can't wait to go outdoors this weekend to shoot some birds..

I took a shot of the table across the road, this is through my tinted windows, on a tripod. AF was spot on from first try. - https://www.flickr.com/photos/darkalfie/14791576971/

Its always better to use tripod for such focal length even though the weight is manageable.
and without VC it might be cheaper so it is a good news.

Agree.. But was hoping I could still take decent with handheld. I thought the same.. No VC maybe cheaper, but its same price haha..

For a bright day, its possible to do it handheld without VC. I have the nikon mount version, and was shooting at 1/2000, f/8 with no VC and had great shots.

Tested with my Nikon 1 V1 + FT-1 adapter. Didn't work. Apparently its a hit and miss based on firmware, only the really old firmware (launch firmware) will work with 3rd party lens. The recent updates broke this :(
