well ... we need some people who can do all the talking to get this going ;) don't worry, we are all good listeners ;p

ATTENTION ATTENTION!!

Ok, now I got your attention, please help me out here.

I said Epson agreed in principle, and I also emphasized many times that proposals must be well-thought out and workable. I want to just say also that projects cannot be photography-for-photography sake which benefits nobody but photographers who just want to have some fun.

Until you have something concrete, please don't keep saying "kaychin says this, kaychin says that", or "Epson promises this or promises that".

One more thing hor, don't make things so complicated lah ... start small, make it effective, show results.

The Medan group of four went with one printer, two laptops, four cameras, some cards, about 900 sheets of 4 x 6, enough inks for the papers. Chop chop, sweet sweet, many many people happy.

No need what police permits one, find one shop house, be nice to the uncle or auntie, borrow electricity, hook up the things, can start liao!!!

Eikin, I have emailed you contacts of the two persons who went to medan, I am sure they will be happy to help you.

Honestly, if you really want to help in a practical way, donate to Red Cross, donate to Salvation Army, donate to Mercy Relief. Or just be nice to your family.

I won't be surprised that after all these postings and exchanges, nothing come out of it. Ideas should always translate to action right?

If not then might as well watch EPL repeat telecasts lor.

Here's the details after the discussion just now ...

1. Activity

We will provide the service of helping individuals or groups of people to take portraiture photograph at 2 tourist destinations. For every photograph print made for the individuals or people, donations will be collected from them. A minimum of S$5/- donations will be collected from the individual or group of people for every successful print.

2. Locations

We will conduct the above-mentioned activity at:

a. The Merlion Park. At the platform extended from the bank of Singapore River.
b. The Singapore River Promenade, around the Stamford Raffles Landing Point beside Empress Place.

3. Collection of Donations

We will sign out donation containers from the Singapore Salvation Army. All donations must be dropped into the containers. These containers will be returned to the Singapore Salvation Army at the end of the charity drive.

4. Period of Activity

We planned to hold this activity over three weekends:

Weekend One: from 150105 to 160105
Weekend Two: from 210105 to 230105
Weekend Three: from 290105 to 300105

This activity will be conducted from 0900 hours to 2100 hours daily on the indicated dates.

Volunteers are still welcomed. We are in the process of getting all the required permits and sponsorships, once they are cleared it's our responsibilities to carry this through. Thanks to all who have supported at this stage. We only hope that we clear all the permits and this event will definitely materialise. During the meeting some other projects are also discussed, as backup plans and even for future events inclusive of non-charity events. Learned alot from all who turned up for the meeting, big THANK YOU!

Great, finally an action plan summary after the 1st meeting which I could not attend. I should be ok to volunteer for the 29 & 30th photographing at the Merlion Park (Will be having police reservist from 13 - 28 Jan at the central district, so I can still pass by and take a look if convenient).

Given the 3 proposed dates of shooting, we should separate the volunteer photographers over the dates. On the other hand, hope that the rest of the logistical issues will be handled smoothly. Thanks to those of you who make the extra effort to make this workable!

i am hoping too! we may not cover all dates of shoots depending on manpower and ground response, these are proposed dates to the police to get the permit to cover the period.

ONE MORE THING

we are looking into tapping power supply from nearby buildings (to be settled after the permits clear) and possibly anyone who can loan us small generators. we'll work in shifts to preserve the availability of laptops.

Tapping power from nearby building may not be easy to get clearance due to some security concerns. Perhaps the cafes nearest to the merlion park may render assistance? Or else will really have to hope someone here has a portable generator. Otherwise, we'll just have to rely on the awesome water power that comes from the merlion statute's roaring mouth!! :bsmilie:

:bsmilie: we have some backup plans in mind, but see how ... yah, we'll request the restaurants to help, also the Stamford Raffles location can request those boat ride ticket sales booth to help, but these will be finalised later.

hmm just my tots , can we approach SLCC to sponser some of the equipment we need , they have a fund rasing event going on also. Maybe we can collabrate on this

SLCC also organise a outdoor and studio shoot on 16th January 2005(Sunday).
We will contribute all the amount to Singapore Red Cross Society. SLCC will pay for the make up fee and the models fee. We hope we can do something for the Tsunamin victims.

If you guys are interested on this shoot, please call me at 98583502(Joanne), I can tell you more about it.

kaychin
first off I would like to thank you for your kind advice and connections. It have help us to at least get started. Some posting here may give the impression that we're doing it just for fun, let me assure you, after last night's meeting, we're serious about getting this up and going.

To let everyone here know what we're doing about this project, please let me add on to what eikin have posted earlier.
At the moment, we're trying to target the tourist here. One of us is getting police permit ( we have to be careful as we're targeting tourist ), another is getting approval from STPB ( we're using a place under their care ), Canon will also be contected by another. We've also got in touch with an event org.er who have agreed to help us in any way he can and we're exploring other options as back up plan in case the approval from STPB or the police is rejected. Some of the plans include place like Santosa, country clubs and maybe even the sale of photos contrubuited by CSer here.
The first step here is to get the permit first. once that is done at least the sponsers will know that we're serious about this project and it's not a scam.
At this point in time, no one can tell if this project will get off the ground, but the chances are very good after last night's meeting. So long as we can get through the red tapes, this project will take off. As I've said last night, right now no one can promise anything, the only thing we can promise, is to each other last night, and that is, we'll try our very best to get this thing going.
Once again, Thank you kaychin (we may need your advice again ,hope you can help), and we hope more CSer can come forward to help in this project.

It puzzled me here, why all this trouble and hassle?

If you wanna help, just donate money.

Hmm ... what can i say ... typical singaporean ... :dunno:

i know u question us with a good intention and i'm sure u've already made some donation to the various charity . (Pls correct if you have not make any donation yet ;) ) , but there's always 3 grp of donors in singapore.

1. People do not make any donation ,
2. People who donate money through the various channel
3. People who want to contribute through the means of reaching out to the mass and at the same time make friends and establish connections. (e,g People collecting donation with tins , volunteers in the various charity organisation etc......

ops i think there's a 4th group ...

4. People who don't donate but like to contribute unconstructive comments

and a 5th one ...

5. People who donate but still like to contribute unconstuctive comments

Take your pick and have a nice day
