Yes.. Not a true dedicated macro lens by today standards

U wan 1:1? get extension tube but reduces ur working distance, no point...

So if you wanna get the most out of the magnification, go for the latest macro (AF-S 105, AF-D 200 f/4) which is 1:1 and the tubes to get 2:1, etc, etc right?

and I think it is quite possible to get a $200+ micro lens.
What do the macro experts think about this
nikkor 55mm f2.8 Ai-s lens??

55mm f/3.5 micro and
ais 55mm f2.8 micro.... in the meantime... good buy??

Tats right, TC adds magnification and closeup filter another option, but Extension tubes best.. no additional glass

so far only found 2 Ai-s macro lenses.
Nikkor 55mm f2.8 Ai-s and
Nikkor 105mm f4 Ai-s.
Anymore??

Just curious.... Is this a worthwhile buy?

Thanks for the clarrifcation. :) I've more or less rounded up the kind of equipments needed, your list setting forth as a prime example of what to get. Of course, my skill is still :thumbsd:... Good info to absorb nevertheless, very grateful for your sharing of knowledge.

just curious.... any reason you won't bother with the older lenses? Other than good and relatively cheap?

Older versions of nikkor micro lens reach a max of 1:2 ratio. You will require the PN-11 ext tube with the 105mm f2.8/f4 micro to reach 1:1. At 400+ bucks you can get a 2nd hand tammy 90mm which can already give 1:1 ratio

EDIT: its F2.8 not f2. A typo there

Oh, sorry if I misled you into thinking about me going into macro, I am interested but not now... Just absorbing all the knowledge for the moment... Yes, I'll concentrate on the 70-200 instead. 10-24 plus 70-200 will give me plenty of landscaping moments as well, apart from the other genres. :)
